Seems like they are more interested in that Advincula guy but him scoring a goal in the next game would definately raise their interest.

Well, there is one US soccer media outlet that is ahead of the curve (again) and has been covering him for awhile ;)

He sounds like more of a winger, but we need those too.

I know this is what BS is for but I always chuckle at comments like these.

WE always take something and play it all the way out.

He might move to the Netherlands (Rumor)
IF he gets regular PT (Hypothetical)
He would then be in contention for a nation team call up (Possible)

We all do it but its still funny anyways

I think that playing in the Netherlands would also put him on the map for the Peruvian national team.

Bshredder can confirm this but I believe he was starting before his ankle injury. I believe he is not working back towards 100% fitness

    Here is an update

    Diego talks about

    1) Sporting Cristal
    2) his injury and recovery
    3) Vitesse rumor
    4) the recent coaching change at Cristal
    5) ambitions to play in Europe

Good article. He wants to play in Europe (who doesn't) but seems satisfied with life at Sporting Cristal, and wouldn't seem to mind a little more time with them until concrete interest from Europe arises.

Out of curiousity.........and a selfish desire to have more wing middies, can you share your gut feeling about his national team preference? Is he a hedger ("I'll go with whomever calls first") guy at the moment? Or do you feel that he's more in one camp over the other (Peru vs. USA)?

Re: Diego Chavarri at Sporting Cristal

I know that he would rather play for the US.

That being said, he's not opposed to Peru either.

If both call at the same time, he'd go with the US. If Peru calls first, it'll be interesting.

I certainly don't think he's ready for the USMNT yet. But I think he should be considered for the US Olympic team once he gets completely back from his ankle injury. He's not at 100% yet but when he is, he's a starter for Cristal and one of their better players.

Well, with qualifying less than a year from now, I'm sure the US U23 head coach is very familiar with him and doing his scouting due dilligence.

I mean, that would be the case if the US, ya know, had an Olympic head coach.

Re: Diego Chavarri at Sporting Cristal

No real hurry. It's not like there is anytime for a camp at the moment. Most of our U23s are key contributors for clubs.

I'd imagine Bob Bradley will take the job if it doesn't conflict with the World Cup qualifying schedule. If it does conflict, it'll go to someone already involved with US Soccer (like last time).

Re: Diego Chavarri at Sporting Cristal

Yeah. Wasn't suggesting that he was ready. I don't know the relative strength of the Peruvian league nor much about the player aside from your fine reporting.

I was just curious how he felt.

A successful transfer to Vitesse would speak volumes though. :)

    mind your own.
Re: Diego Chavarri at Sporting Cristal

Why? He was born to Peruvian parents, was raised in Peru, and speaks Spanish.

Apparently because that is something he stated in the interview. Also, taking into consideration that his only chance of making it to the World Cup someday would be with the US. Don't forget that people speak Spanish here in the US too bro.

Re: Diego Chavarri at Sporting Cristal

strange thing is I don't think he is being considered for the Peru NT by anyone to be perfectly honest

the Peru coach has mini call ups of local players every so often and I cant recall him ever being mentioned

2 other younger Sporting Cristal guys have been called up, interesting to see where his carrear goes
