YES! I got the news when I walked in after work. My nephew has been doing some reading and says this multi-dimensional player will solve alot of problems. Get this: Apparently, he could immediately fill the LWB role and sit on Naldo's shoulder while he learns the BuLi ropes. Wouldn't that be f***ing great! Not only could he fill Frings shoes some day but can attack as well. Gooood signing Werder...you made me proud today. Everything else that happens after this is just cream
Good transfer! Will he be starting next week in the CL match vs Sampdoria? Also will he start as LWB or CM. I think it's best for you guys to buy a real left-back and put Wesley where he usually plays, in center mid. Marin------------Hunt ----Wesley-Frings----
According to a French source Werder currently thinks about giving Mickaël Silvestre a contract to compensate the hole in the central defense occured by Naldos injury. The 33 years old left foot would be a free transfer, because his contract ran out at Arsenal. Fulham and Kayserispor are according to the source also interested.
Rosenborg showed today that he still has a lot to offer Bremen ... hopefully Bremen can keep him here for another season or two ... Wagner is still not ready to step up and we need someone to support Pizzaro .... KA has said that should an offer come in, they will let Rosenborg go ... if he leaves that will be a huge loss for Bremen as this guy has a knack for scoring some important goals
Rosenbergs problem is, that he doesn't play well on a constant level. He has class, but shows it sadly only from time to time. Hopefully this goal gave him some self-confidence and cut the knot. With the qualification to the CL the team (especially the defense) must be strengthened. A full back is a must and an additional CB would be great, because of Naldos injury. So at the CB position a loan deal or short time contract for an older player could make sense.
I don't think that Werder actualy needs Rosenberg nor Wagner (lol!) for that matter to sit on the bench. You guys have with Trinks, Testroet, Thy and maybe F. Kroos some amazing young striker talent and I'd be very surprised if they wouldn't get a chance this or at least next season.
So stop buying stikers for god's sake! You have already too many and are being now linked to a couple more. What do the Bundesliga teams do of so many strikers?
Trinks and F.Kroos are midfielder. There are some youngsters for many positions. Timo Perthel for example could be a LB option, he is a better football player than Boenisch or Pasanen, but his positioning is absolutely pathetic (even worse than the one of our other fullbacks). Hopefully he improves it ...
I assume he will be preferred to Pasanen at CB and LB now? I watched the game against Hoffenheim, he looked awful... as an Arsenal fan I think Silvestre would be a good signing. Not a great reader of the game but good in the air and reasonably quick. A great professional - he won't complain if he spends time on the bench. I would compare him maybe to Heiko Westermann...
Is Silvestre versatile enough to move into a LB role once Naldo is back? Pasanen seems to be past the hump, and I am not sure we ca ever really expect much from Boenisch. I suspect that once Naldo returns, or we sign another defender, that Borowski will cease being a starter. But even if Boro does start on the bench after that, I am struggling to come up with a formation that makes the best use of our best players...
He played it at ManU and Arsenal, but he is 33 years old. Hard to say if he still has the pace. Last season we played most often 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1. But the team can also switch to 4-3-3. More player rotation is a important point, but therefore the bench players must show their potentials.
Not entirely sure if this is the best place for this or not, but Werder's cash flow seems to be a common topic here. UEFA revealed the CL and EL cash distribution today. Werder received 8.2 million. (By comparison, Bayern received 56 million for their CL success...)
In the old UEFA cup format however, you got to negotiate your TV contract independently. So that added something to it. The year Bayern played in the UEFA cup and lost to Zenit in the semis they actually made comparable money as the previous year in the CL. I think something similar applied to "Bandenwerbung" (Stadium Sponsorship) as well. Don't know however, if that still applies to the EL.
For clubs like Stuttgart or Werder the UEFA-cup was financially only interesting when reaching the semi-final or final. The individual marketing was only good for clubs like Bayern with quasi-monopol structures. The EL is financially interesting from the quarter-finals on.
Werder sent Perthel on a 1 year loan to Austrian BL team Sturm Graz. One can easily conclude, that a new LB will be presented in the next days.
A good signing...finally, some depth for the long road ahead! I haven't watched an Arsenal game in a few seasons so I'm curious to see how he's held up over the years. I hope he's just getting his second wind...and not that of a flatulent nature either.
he is 33 already, am not sure how long can he keep up play, but I agree he is an upgrade over boenisch and pasanen. but then again as long as schaaf keeps his defensive tactics... any good defenders will turn out looking like amateurs in our backline.
Last season only 3 BL teams conceeded less against goals than us. So it is possible, it just depends on the players concentration and how the team works. This season in the first matches there were too many personal black-outs, they must be reduced to let us play a good season.
Absolutely correct. The myth of the leaky Werder defense is just that, a myth. Anyone remember that Wiese was about 20 minutes from breaking the record for consecutive shutout minutes early in the season?
I guess the signing is a good one. At least Silvestre is better than Boenisch and Pasanen. I don´t rate him higher than Prödl as a centre back btw. But there´s one thing I´ll have to criticise: The last season when Silvestre played more than 15 league games was in 05/06, after that he was a good back-up, nothing more. So hopefully he´ll really be able to help us. I mean, we have earned 30 million Euros and what we get as a free agent for approx. 3 million salary for two years. What about the remaining 24 million Euros. I want cup wins!
We have loaned Rosenberg to Racing. Not sure about the pecuniaries, though. http://www.teamtalk.com/news/7555/6351117/Rosenberg-joins-Racing-on-loan
