http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSTRE57R3KY20090828 I'll leave it to everyone else to discuss how this affects any future soccer teams in the area.
Everyone here already knew Wilpon was out as a prosepective owner, so this wont be shocking news to them.
how cute a double team! Yea - people have been saying he has to sell - yet they come out and say -nope - we dont have to sell - time will tell!
Regardless, as a Mets fan, this is terrible. I liked Wilpon...and his supposed soccer interests only helped in obtaining my faith. Madoff must've really f**ked him if he sold his newly created stadium and heavily invested team..... hold on...this news is happening to the wrong franchise!
Conspiracy theorists would look at this news with the Barcelona rumors brewing and the rumors of the Mets sale...and see a combined Wilpon-Barca effort looming in the future. But I'm not a conspiracy theorist.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/29/sports/baseball/29wilpon.html?_r=1&em Can this to mean that Wilpon can be still interested to put a NYC team in MLS ?
To be fair to Fabio - that report he posted is Fred saying that all is good - hinting that he wont need to sell! There are a lot of things going on in NY soccer if you think about it - Outside of a world class arena for RB - you have a USL team going to Long Island trying to get to Queens, the Cosmos name has been bought - jsut a lot going on lol - so lets see how this all plays out!
