Hey gang, you will have to excuse the stupid question, but are the Revs one of the teams that will be wearing Adidas this year? I know that most of the teams are switching over to Adidas as part of that Adidas for 10 years thing, put I also know that there are other teams that still have contracts with Nike and other brands that are not going to switch over right away. Ohhhh, and like I said please excuse the stuipd question, I have been away a awhile. -Cheers!
It's not a stupid question. There was a rumor that Adidas was buying out Reebok's contract for this upcoming season, but it doesn't appear to have happened. At least as of now, the team is training with their Reebok kits.
Which means Revs fans can expect ZERO merchandise to purchase this year yet again. And even if there is Reebok merchandise, who is going to shell a cent out for it, when we know that there will be all new gear and shirt design with adidas the following year? Ho-hum - combine all these thread thoughts in this forum and this year's story is starting out exactly the same as previous ones.
Why should we have any expectations when we don't know for sure who's outfitting the team this year? The Magpie
Anyone find it interesting that all the Revolution players pictured in the story through the following link are wearing Adidas warm-ups? http://www.revolutionsoccer.net/news/fullstory.sps?iNewsid=151538&itype=4073&iCategoryID=429 The Magpie
I still use last years workout gear I guess as Magpie has pointed out above--we just don't know for sure yet. But I wouldn't hold my breath. When I look at all the data made available so far it sure looks like we will have a huge vacume for another season.
Re: Will the Revs be sporting Pearl Izumi or Sugoi Yeah, and I'll still wear the Reebok and Athletica jerseys in the stands this year. It did cross my mind that maybe there's something to them wearing Adidas in the photos highlighted on the official team site, whereas Tony's training pics are for an independent outlet. Of course, they also just put up a billboard out on Rt. 16 in Everett advertising tickets*, and the photo used therein is of Twellman...wearing Umbro from 2003. *Actual team advertising, I know, Toole and I were as surprised to see it as the rest of you.
Re: Will the Revs be sporting Talbots or Brooks Brothers Well, this thread took a turn for the graphic. so...uh...oh, hey, porkpie hat guy made it through to the finalists on American Idol! What was the topic again?
If that is because we will be adidas - then I would think that is good news. If that is because we will still be Reebok - then I might still argue why would anyone going to shell out a cent this year, since we know next year it is going to be adidas. If that is because it will be a bunch of Fruit of the Loom sweathshirts and generic t-shirts, well, that's just same-old/same-old
Revolution announce adidas as official equipment sponsor Revs to wear three stripes brand in 2005 Foxborough, Mass. - The New England Revolution announced today that adidas will become the team's official uniform and equipment supplier beginning with the 2005 season. During the course of the exclusive 10-year partnership announced last November between adidas and MLS, adidas will hold the exclusive rights to outfit all 12 MLS clubs, as well as supplying the League's Official Match Ball. The addition of the Revolution raises the total number of clubs outfitted by adidas in 2005 to nine (of 12 MLS clubs). "For the Revolution, the opportunity to be outfitted in adidas is ideal," said Craig Tornberg, General Manager of the Revolution. "The three stripes of adidas are recognized throughout the world as a leader in the sport of soccer. We are excited to be part of adidas' vision to support MLS and American soccer." adidas has been a partner of MLS since the League's inception and in 2005, in addition to outfitting the Revolution, adidas will become the supplier of the League's two expansion clubs: Club Deportivo Chivas USA (Los Angeles, CA) and Real Salt Lake (Salt Lake City, UT), as well as the Colorado Rapids (Denver, CO), FC Dallas (Dallas, TX) and the San Jose Earthquakes (San Jose, CA). The company is a charter supplier of MLS Cup 2004 champions D.C. United (Washington, DC), the Columbus Crew (Columbus, OH) and the Kansas City Wizards (Kansas City, MO). The landmark 10-year partnership between adidas and MLS incorporates every aspect of the game, from product creation, to player development, grassroots programs, television rights and retail distribution. Under the agreement, adidas will be granted exclusive rights to sales of all MLS League and team-branded product, including apparel and equipment, and exclusive broadcast advertising rights for all MLS games during the next 10 years. The Generation adidas program was unveiled as the first major player development initiative as part of the partnership agreement. The new youth player development program, designed to identify and nurture the elite youth soccer talent in the United States, kicked off in January with the signing of 12 of the top young soccer players in the nation to MLS and adidas contracts. Beginning in 2005 with Major League Soccer's 10th season, adidas apparel and equipment will be featured in major retail stores across the country as part of extensive national retail development plans for an expanded MLS product offering. Additionally, adidas will develop MLS-specific advertising and marketing programs along with commercially supporting every team. The Revolution will host the Columbus Crew on April 9 at Gillette Stadium in the home opener of the Revs' 10th season. Ticket information is available by calling 1-877-GET-REVS. --REVOLUTION--
As was mentioned in the General Meeting thread, Craig said that because of time constraints, this year's jersey must be based on something that Adidas are already producing. The team has already submitted a fully non-derivative design for the 2006 season which has been approved and is moving ahead into production. He did say that this year's jersey will feature the color blue. Not sure when we get to see either of these.
