Did you watch the final game between Montreal-Vancouver, if you think their was a difference in quality of play you need a head exam.
I never heard another NASL fan talk like WSW. Most of us are just happy there is a league and hope it survives. None of us compare it to MLS. I don't think WSW realizes on how much shaky ground NASL and its clubs are on. Or he does and chooses to ignore it. And MLS is a lot closer to becoming competitive with FMF than D2 will ever be with MLS. If you buy any of what Garber and his acolytes are saying in recent interviews about MLS becoming a top league in 10-15 years. Then the salary cap is going to have to be raised significantly and we are going to have to see $50-$200 million player budgets. MLS will have to pass Mexico with yankee dollars. You are the last person on earth who should ever tell someone else they need a head exam.
Isn't that like saying, for NASL to surpass MLS we need to increase attendance to 20,000 - 30,000 in the next 10-15 years?
No, because one statement is logical and the other is fantasy. MLS clubs increasing their budgets is a given. But how much will determine what type of league they will be. You can't tell folks you want to be one of the best leagues in the world with salary cap under $3,000,000. Of course Garber knows this. So there definitely is a plan to significantly increase the club budgets. In the next 10-15 years, if our D2 league is drawing 20,000-30,000 fans, then that will mean we discovered and converted a whole slew of soccer fans that don't exist now in this country. That would mean our D1 league is probably drawing 40,000-70,000 and has overtaken the EPL. Fantasy. No one sees that happening within 10-15 years. Hell, averaging 5,000 a game 10-15 years from now would be a huge accomplishment for D2.
That could happen in 50-75 years though re: MLS drawing 40-70,000 per game. D2....you'll never see that more than what the rest of the world sees in a 2nd tier (Championship for example) at 12-35,000 per game. BUT, what the NASL really needs to do is provide somewhere for the "future" of MLS to play. As an MLS manager I can't see any purpose in having my kids playing reserve soccer v. NASL. Clearly the better development would be had playing NASL. Though I've read the MLS squads can't loan players out unless signed to the first team and that means they count against the cap even if loaned out and NOT paying the salary?
For that MLS needs a TV deal, We will see what happens in 2015 when the new CBA is negotiated, If there is a pretty big TV deal 10+ Million per year and the poor teams turn around then maybe we will see a double or triple salary cap. Important for NASL will be when and how fast MLS blows pass 20 teams.
Many with the team that get promoted. Also didn't the current coach of inter milan go from Serie C to A?
All the time. Just like players, referees, administrators, commentators, and so on. Do you read your questions and comments before you post them?
And it's not just a soccer phenomenon. 3 of the last 5 winners of the NHL's Jack Adams Award (Coach of the Year) won it within 3 years of being hired from an AHL team. 2 of them won it in their first year after being hired in the big leagues.
Consider college tuition an expansion fee. And what is a closed-cartel system? I thought nonsense like that died in the pro-rel thread.
This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. And you still don't understand what a cartel is. FAIL. Ignorance has never stopped people from yelling fire in a crowded theater ... why start now.
You'd think some statements are so obviously sarcastic that putting a sarcastic smiley would be overkill but I guess I should stop overestimating people.
A number of posters like DCU1996 have made statements exactly like the one you made. So such statements aren't obviously sarcastic. You certainly can't blame anyone for not getting your intent. The fault is not with your audience.
