Haven't read the whole thread and I know he was used as a MF before in MLS(not sure if it was a winger or not) but could Gomez be utilized in the same manner as Shea and Adu for the U-23's?

I know he isn't the stand up FW, which is why he hasn't been called in yet but he does have a nose for goal and was wondering how we could work him into the lineup.

He had already scored all seven of those goals when US Soccer announced the call ups for France and Slovenia. It was probably 7 in 14 or 15 appearances.

But realistically he has to realize that he's in a situation where he has to compete with Buddle and Agudelo and Boyd and Bunbury.... LOL

You threw Bunbury in there on purpose to make us laugh ( as I wipe the coffee off my monitor)

Qualifying starts this summer. No reason, JK can't run out a 4132 initially until the competition justifies his favored 4231 deeper into the process. Herc should be one of the two strikers. Period.

When he's in a suit, he looks like President Obama. Does he do imitations?

Herc is Exhibit One as The-Guy-Who-Plays-Well-Off-McBride's Ghost, and why we should have never given up that 4-4-2 (really 4-4-1-1, but not the stupid version, with us pretending Jozy, brilliant as he is, is a target guy).

I'm all for national curricula, and I'm all for admiring Barca, but Slovakia and Slovenia and Poland and Germany do not compete in the World Cup by having Barca-itis.

It seems like Herc has been around forever, but he's only 29 (30 in April). At 32, the WC would not be beyond his reach. He definitely deserves a callup. I hope we see him for the Scotland and Brazil matches.

That is a top class goal.

I agree. I def. think he'll get a chance with Agudelo being out.

The way he can finish with his head is something we really need right now.

okay seriously if Gomez still doesn't get the call I'm going to pull out the race card, because at this point there is NO reason whatsoever that this man doesn't have a secured spot on the USMNT... :D

Because we know if there is one thing that JK hates, its latin players...

Seriously, he's going to get called up. Dempsey, Altidore, Gomez, and Sapong will get the call at Forward.

He's played right midfield for a year. Why are you comparing him to forwards?

Nope, Dempsey, Altidore, Gomez and Boyd will get the call at Forward.

Sort of. If Klinsmann were going to use Gomez in the same role he plays for Santos, it would look something like this in the attack.

    --------------- Altidore

    - Donovan - Dempsey - Gomez -

You would see Gomez pushing high to try to time runs behind defenses. I think it is a mix worth evaluating.
