I consider Brasil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay the top 4, as they are usually the most consistent.

Then you got the toss ups like 98 to 01 was Colombia, 02 to 07 Ecuador, and now it's Chile.

Although Colombia was clearly 3rd in the early 90s.

    I`m biased on this one.
After the big three (Brazil, Argentina & Uruguay), in CONMEBOL history, with no doubt........

    CHILE

As for only present times, behind Brazil,
we are second, then after us its a tie between Paraguay, Argentina and Uruguay (the only reason they achieved a better performance than what we did in this WC, its because they had a better draw than us. We had to face the next World champion (Spain) and afterwards die against the first of CONMEBOL (Brazil)). :p

right now? and taking into account they have qualified for 4 WC's in a row

    then Paraguay over Uruguay

Historically its of course no contest Uruguay over Paraguay

the way I see it historically

    1-Brazil
    2-Argentina
    3-Uruguay
    4-Paraguay/Peru/Chile
    5-Colombia
    6-Bolivia/Ecuador
    7-Venezuela

    Historically I would say:

    1. Brasil
    2. Argentina
    3. Uruguay
    4. Paraguay
    5. Chile
    6. Peru
    7. Colombia
    8. Bolivia
    9. Ecuador
    10. Venezuela

    Currently I would say:

    1. Brasil
    2. Chile
    3. Paraguay
    4. Argentina
    5. Uruguay
    6. Ecuador
    7. Colombia
    8. Venezuela
    9. Bolivia
    10. Peru

(yes, I think the CONMEBOL qualifiers, because they are todos contra todos and have so many games, are a pretty good indicator of the current level).

    Historically
    1.Brazil
    2.Argentina
    3.Uruguay
    4.Chile/Paraguay/Peru
    5.Colombia
    6.Bolivia/Ecuador
    7.Venezuela

Colombia,Bolivia, and Ecuador have had great teams in their golden eras but haven't been consistent enough, while Peru back than was really really good. Ecuador lately has been the best out of these so if they qualify beautifuly to Brazil 2014 and have a good Copa America they'll be ahead of those 2 on my list.

    Currently:
    Uruguay
    Brazil
    Paraguay
    Chile
    Argentina
    Ecuador
    Colombia
    Venezuela
    Bolivia/Peru

And when we actually do agree who is 4th, we`ll start debating who is 3rd. And after that we`ll have to start all over with 4th again,......till the next WC. :D

Well,........., we have 4 years ahead of us, lets continue........

who gives a shit who is 4th best? This reasoning is why we the CONMEBOL are so far behind europe. Every major european football nation will win a world cup before any one outside brazil in south america will.

you probably mean mid 90's because peru started to play some football at the middle of the decade, while bolivia started to collapse rtight after copa america 1997. and dont forget copa america paraguay 1999, bolivia lost twice i think, and colombia to me was the best team until 1997 too.

so this will be my list

    brazil/colombia
    argentina
    paraguay
    chile/uruguay/bolivia
    peru
    ecuador
    venezuela

    there is no 4TH greatest,because then there would be a 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and even a 10th greatest team in conmebol.

the best two are brazil and argentina, then comes uruguay, then chile/paraguay/peru/colombia and then bolivia/ecuador and then venezuela

I said every major european nation. Spain, France, Germany, Italy, England have all won it. And people must be idiots to think that Colombia, ecuador, peru, venezuela, bolivia, chile will win a World Cup before holland, Portugal and even Belgium.. It wasn't true before France won and its not true when Spain won it and it will never be true until the conmebol does something about it.

even Belgium? doubt it, but on the rest there are more chances the other teams win it before the Conmebol ones you mentioned, but I include Uruguay in the list too. Portugal and Holland will win it before every Conmebol except Brasil and Argentina, or at least they have a better chance of doing it.

same thing was said about france and spain. 20 years ago anyone in world that would have said that these two countries would win a world cup, people would have put you into a asylum and laughed at you. and Belgium has made it a world cup semifinal. The point is that UEFA has organization, marketing and strives to better the entire region and every country in its confederation no matter how small unlike our piece of shit that defend only the interest of a few and its own pockets. South Africa is a big wake up call and the way things are going. We won't win another world cup. anyone who said europe can't win outside europe and I'll include myself. OWNED..

It is true UEFA has organization and marketing which we will never match ....BUT.....it is still a very corrupt organization no less than CONMEBOL is....in Europe everybody except the big ones HATE Platini......I think everywhere in FIFA there is the "defend only the interest of a few and its own pockets" part......Spain's and France's success were more a result of the government's long-term investment in sports than of UEFA or anything UEFA related.
