I know its early. But I love any football talk regarding international tournaments. Of course things and opinions will change along the way but who cares. I think either Brazil or last couple days been feeling Argentina. Out of them 2. I hope Spain dont win yet another cup, that will be boring as hell if they do.

If I had to tip one to win right now, I'd say Argentina.

Why not add a poll to it? have people choose a team & further suggest why... again will obviously just be a discussion exercise as we all know 2014 is far far away... but then again u never know!!

If by some fluke the United States doesn't win (let me have my dreams!) then I think Germany has a pretty decent shot, just like they always do. If not, I could see Brazil doing very, very well.

There's 3 big favorites for me.. Brazil, Spain, and Argentina. I can see Mexico, Uruguay, and Portugal having a shot at it as well. Countries used to hot temperatures will have an advantage.

Mexico have no chance. They've been the 2nd round specialists for quite some time now. They could have enormous luck one day but even still that would only see them reaching the semi's at best imo.

By the way there's only one team winning this world cup and that's Vanuatu. No one else will even come close.

Since a few Portuguese born immigrants recently became Andorra citizens, I'm thinking they will win this world cup and stick it to Spain.

All I can say is I cannot wait for ESPN's all World cup issue when they do the "who won't win, but should" and "who should win, but won't"

Mexico have about a 1 percent chance to win the world cup in 2014. I'd love to see them win it, but it's almost impossible for them to do so. They could do a Greece or be a new rising power like Spain but the odds on that happening is huge. Winning the olympics is one thing, world cup and euro another. Teams like Nigeria and Cameroon have won the olympics yet have nothing to show for it bar 2 second round appearances at the world cup and a quarter final between them. Mexico's best effort is 2 quarter finals. Yes they also beat Brazil in a friendly a couple months ago but it was exactly that, a friendly. Australia beat Germany in Germany last year or late 2010 after they got pumped 4 nil in the 2010 world cup. It means jack shit.

You could be right and I'd love for you to be so, I'd happily eat my words but I doubt it. Until Mexico wins the world cup they'll continue to be the 2nd round specialists which is what they are. An ok solid team who can trouble the big guns but nothing more.

To be fair Mexico have had harsh decisions go against them in the 2nd round in the last 3 world cups. Against the USA PRETTY SURE AT 1-0 DOWN THEY WERE DENIED A penalty for handball. Against Argentina, the Argentinians should of had a man sent off in normal time and in 2010 again vs Argentina the first goal was clearly offside. If any big team gets a break like that it's almost impossible to come back from. Good teams don't usually give up the lead when they go ahead. I remember in 1998 Hernandez blew a great chance to kill off Germany in the 2nd round. He choked and that came back to haunt him. I like Mexico a lot and would love to see them win a world cup and soon, but when Great sides like Portugal and Holland havn't even won one { Portugal never ever made the world cup final } and super powers like Argentina and Germany not winning it for 25 odd years it makes you realise how difficult it is indeed to win the World Cup.

Really? nothing in between like say QF or Semi "specialists". I do not think Mexico will win 2014, very few actually do. But they could become an England or Holland type team soon averaging QF exits. Spain went from perennial choker and 3 and out in 98 to best team in the world in 12 years. It is not unreasonable to think that in the near future Mexico could land somewhere in between. Or course being in Concacaf, Mexico gets royally screwed by the Confed Multiplier in the rankings formula, so it will be near impossible for them to earn a seed in the future regardless of how well they might play and whatever "formula" FIFA invents to get what they want.. Being a second round specialist, last 5 WCs, while only being seeded once is damn impressive, so they already have a good base for the youth movement to build upon.

Errrrrr, that's exactly what I said. You clearly did not take in what I said. Secondly, seeing as though you didn't understand it, I said the chances of that happening is highly unlikely. And no they are not quarter final or semi final specialists because as I mentioned already, their best effort is a quarter final in only 2 occasions. Who cares if they make the quarters or semi's in 2014? Many teams can and have. This is about winning it like he said. Teams like Ukraine in 2006 have made the quarters, Senegal, USA in 2002. Turkey made the semi's in 2002, Cameroon quarters in 1990. So what? All those teams I mentioned that was a one off. Do it consistently and back it up. Granted Turkey did make the semi's of euro 2008, but do it in the world cup over and over again. And why should they be seeded? What exactly have they ever did that makes them worthy of a top seed? Win the gold or concacaaf cup? that cup is a joke.

Spain had won a euro championship before and played in another final, reached the semi's in 1950 world cup and made the quarters four times before they went on their crazy run these last 4 years. To compare a team like Spain to Mexico even before 2008 before their crazy 3 tournament winning spree is an absolute jokes considering the class players theyve provided and played in europe's top leagues for decades, more notably Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Btw an England or a Holland type team and average quarter final exits? yes they certainly could. I never said they couldn't. Theyve earnt their tag as the 2nd round specialists for as you said, theyve exited that stage of the competition the last 5 times. But understand one thing, to compare them to a team '' like Holland and England '' is still a joke. Holland have played in 3 world cup finals, a semi final, won the euros and made the semi's of the euro's on 2 more occasions. I know Mexico can't obviously play in the euros, but the euro is a big tournament and is extremely hard to win. England have won the world cup and made the semi's, also have a three quarter final exits. You can't compare Mexico to these teams until they actually do it. Play in a world cup final or reach the semi's consistently. Yes it can happen, but it's still very unlikely based on what we've seen thus far. Talk about potential all you want. Many teams possess potential to '' maybe '' become a rising power or make a semi final or two.

As I said, stick to the point I originally made. Mexico win the world cup in 2014? About a one percent chance.

NO, that is not what you said. You said:

"Until Mexico wins the world cup they'll continue to be the 2nd round specialists which is what they are"

You did not leave any middle room. You should have expressed yourself more clearly. As for Brazil, I give them about a 3% chance.

The average temp in May in Rio and Sao Paulo is high 70s, low 80s. Perfect football weather for anyone.
