JK is supposed to Name a new US for this round of qualifying since Bocca has been dropped, Timmy is hurt, and Landon is on sabbatical. The media and Internet thinks he will pick Bradley (which I think he should) but I think JK might pick Dempsey simply because he is the best player. I don't think deuce has the temperament to be a captain. Who do you think he will pick? Who do you want?

I wonder why Dempsey never gets the nod? He is the only player able to 1)score, 2) string three touches together without vomiting on himself 3) score.

I honestly think Dempsey could use the punch up. He's dragging ass for the Spuds.

    1) Bradley
    2) Beasley (if he's going to play)
    3) Jones (but some players would be ticked if a German-American got it).
    4) Gomez

Those are the four guys I could see being reasonable choices. Though Mikey and Jermaine do seem to be a little hot-headed for a captain. I wouldn't pick Dempsey.

For pure comedy value naming Jerome Jimmy Jones as captain is too good to pass up.

    German pep talks. JK's response?

Learn german while on the pitch, idiots.

Last year I would have said Bradley. This year I think he still needs to prove it. Although, I don't know who would be a better options... maybe Gomez if he were starting regularly.

The big money is on Bradley. But I do agree to an earlier poster, why does it seem unlikely that Dempsey can be captain for a few matches?

Surprised to see so many people suggest J.Jones. I'm a big Jones fan but I thought everyone on Big Soccer hated him. That said I don't think he has the temperament to be Captin either

    What does it matter?

Dempsey would be a fine captain, and I honestly wouldn't complain if he gets selected over Bradley until the start of the 2018 cycle.

Every time I hear people whine about poor Jermaine Jones getting overlooked for it, I laugh as Clint is the player who is really getting overlooked.

This. For as much as I enjoy talking about the USMNT, we're not in the locker room so we have no idea who should be captain. It's not always the best player; it's the best leader. And that's something that the players will be well aware of regardless of who JK picks. Although JK should also be fully capable of seeing who should be captain.

No I mean, what's the point of an international captain? What are they doing in 5-7 days that can make or break a team?

Why is giving Michael Bradley an armband going to solve problems? He plays 90 minutes every game. He's perfectly capable of "leading" a team without it.

It's purely for show and a way of recognizing long time veterans that have contributed for the national team over a period of time, nothing else.

How is this any different than what I said? Why did you say no?

You said the captain is the best leader. I disagree with that when it comes to an international captain. And that's not to say Boca, Donovan, Reyna or any of our past captains weren't the team leader. I just think there's waaaayy too much emphasis placed on the intl captain selection.

John Harkes. John Terry. It can matter, but usually only if the guy is a punk. Or, it can matter if they captain does a really good job. Someone like Aboutrika for Al-Ahly and Egypt. A talismanic figure.

I feel the safe/neutral choice is Guzan. Anything else seems to have some controversy behind it.

I fail to see how Michael Bradley has any controversy other than JK may be uncomfortable naming the son of his predecessor captain.
