There's good and bad in this. BAD: Messi was heartbroken at missing his chance to score for Argentina. Good: He'll be motivated to win another callup. Good: Peckerman WILL NOT forget Messi for the next friendly/meaning-less qualifier. Good: Well we know Messi isn't injured.
This will be a hell of a cracking game if it lives up to the billing. Even if it`s a friendly we all know it will be as competitive as a championship match. Well hopefully Messi gets a chance to play in this one. Also didn`t Pekerman coach Messi at youth level before? May be that helps also. i will be thrilled if the prodigy goes to Germany 06, it will remind me of the youthfull Ortega at U.S.A 94.
messi is a star for the future a fairy tale start to an international career should be the last thing on his mind. form is temporary class is perminent!!!! lift ur head up kid!!!!! u will be a household name around the world soon!!!
Definetely agree with you.. i think it was a disaster, haven't seen the actual moment but whatever it was for as good as he is he didn't deserve the blow of being red carded with only a few seconds in his debut, but s@#@@@ happens, I just hope he gets aanother chance before the world cup, even though i don't think he has a chance of starting, but I think he definetely should go along...
Pekerman did not coach Messi with the youth teams. Pekerman became national team coach before Messi got his first call up to the U-20 squad-- which I believe was in the south american qualifiers for the U-20 world cup.
Cool and thanks for the info, just thought that if he had coached Messi it would help him alot since they would have worked together before at youth level. But realistically i think if Messi produces a break through season with us with enough appearances in the CL and the primera then he might as well head to Germany in 2006. Problem Argentina has so many good players, but let`s hope for the best for him.
I love it when old threads get bumped up and are reviewed with hindsight. "Who the Hell is Messi?" Indeed!
Reminds of the game I was here in Utrecht, the semi-final against Brazil (probably told this a 100 times already). I sat next to some guy who didn't know his football...this was our conversation: him: So who should I watch? me: See that small guy overthere? him: They're all small. The one who just got the ball? me: Yeah, the little guy who's cutting inside. Watch him. ... BOOM! and then we all went mad
Funny to see this thread revived but isn't the question du jour one of who is next? Who the hell is Woo (14)? Dongou (17)? or Deulofeu (18)?
