This thread is probably a year and a half old now.

Messi is now a bonified player for Barca´s A team. Everything indicates he´ll play in Guily´s spot. On and Off.

One more thing to mention, his natural position is in Dinho´s spot.

"The boss has had me playing out on the right of late and I feel very comfortable there, but whenever I've played up front, I've interchanged my position. I guess playing on the right is where I'm happiest, as that lets me cut inside more easily."

Great article Patrick. Cutting in from the right is perfect for him, and even moreso for Barça

isn`t Messi 18 and what about cesc, 19, 20 or also 18 and he is commanding a regular place for Arsenal. i think he might even get a call up to the national team should he keep playing well for them. i feel that Messi given enough playing time will mature quickly since he has already earned a call up to the Argentine team. Problem minutes are not easy to come by with the kind of players we have.

Chill out man. That post was made a long time ago.

First hint: the date next to the post.

Second hint: He refers to Messi as a "16 year old". Messi recently turned 18.

Messi and Cesc are the same age. Cesc is a few months older i believe, he's already played 51 first team games for Arsenal.

And what that tells me is...Arsenal isn't as good in the midfield as Barcelona is in the attack. Considering Gilberto missed a ton of last season (as did Edu), who was Cesc beating out for all that playing time? Flamini?

Fabregas got his chance so early because of injuries to Edu (plus his contractual situation) and Vieira. Ordinarily he would have been behind both. When it became apparent that the team played to a higher level with him in the side. He was kept in until he began to tire. Nothing to do with Arsenal having a weak midfield.

Well the referee was a disaster in this match, total madness, if you look at the replays and the action Messi was controversially sent off but as usually we have some crazy match officials like Markus Merk spoiling our wonderkid`s debut. Markus left so many fouls against Argentina go uncalled, don`t know if it is because he was in hungary or what was wrong with him..

that`s Maxi Rodriguez on the recieving end of a bad foul

Messi`s elbow didn`t to me even make contact , may be a little bit but he was having his shirt tugged and the referee for whatever reason din`t make the call. But what was he to do when the opponent was holding his shirt back...

Poor Messi, hopefully he will get more chances to play since Argentina has already qualified for the final. but the referee, crazy at least for today. Argentina controlled the tempo of the play particularly from midfield and i`m sure just 10 minutes of Messi mania the score would have changed to may be 4-1. Hardluck to the prodigy.
