Oh dear.... yeah, that's what we need - for the Euro cup to become more like the Gold Cup. o_O ie. matches spread out over vast distances, with rigged groups based on the location of the group's games.

I think Spain, Germany, England and Italy should all have bid. If Turkey pulls out because of the olympics, that only leaves two terrible options.

I vote that UEFA bribe the IOC into not picking Istanbul if it has to.

I think Tokyo will get the 2020 olympic games. They are the favourites and the least risky bid.

If Istanbul does get the olympics then It would have to go to Ireland, Wales and Scotland since as I said, giving the games to Georgia and Azerbaijan when there is political instability in the region, the infustructure is not up to standard yet(though Azerbaijan does have oil) and the transport to get there would be a problem. How many flights are there that go to Tbilisi or Baku from europes major cities i.e London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Madrid? not many I would think. Also they have to build enough hotels for 22 teams traveling fans.

umm, Ukraine was an excellent country to visit, as confirmed by many of those who actually got up from their ass and visited it during Euro 2012, instead of listening to the stupid western media propaganda and stereotypical myths.

Scotland–Republic of Ireland–Wales - it would be nice to see EURO teams here. Only here we could see true football atmosphere, stadiums are nice: Celtic Park, Hampden Park, Ibrox, Easter Road, Millennium Stadium, Cardiff City Stadium, Liberty Stadium, Croke Park, Semple Stadium, Aviva Stadium, Gaelic Grounds, Pairc ui Chaoimh, Fitzgerald Stadium, etc.:)

Could they afford it? Hosting a tournament is pretty expensive.

we (ireland) are in a massive recession but we'll always find a few extra euro from somewhere if it means we get to watch football, have a few drinks and have a bit of craic .....but realistically yeah it would cost lots but on the other hand there we be a huge tourism cash inflow for ireland, scotland & wales.

UEFA will create some financial background. I think that Turkey will do everything:whistling: to get this tournament. Ireland - Wales - Scotland would have much better location for fans, from every European country, fans can arrive in a 3,4 hours max and enjoy in Beamish Stout or O'Hara's Celtic Stout.:D From tourist aspect these three countries can offer a lot.

exactly the 3 nations would provide a better tournament for the fans and its very short travelling time aswell between them, besides it would be a nice change of scenery for football as its always held in a central-ish europe location

If they put this EURO in Turkey, they could include Asian part of Turkey, Turkey has bigger distances, Georgia is really to far from any western European country. Beside maps, I don't know what could Georgia offer in touristic sense.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_(country)

They have nice mountains. But they don't have European customs, it's more like Asia.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tourism_in_Georgia_(country)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culture_of_Georgia_(country)

This is Georgian national dish: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Khinkali.jpg

They also play very defensive football.

Turkey has good national league, good national team, few tourist sights, but smaller part of Turkey is in Europe. EURO should have European atmosphere. Ireland - Wales - Scotland could offer a lot of history, cultural institution, history of literature, traditional types of cuisine, landscapes (Wicklow, Dublin, Co Clare, Galway, Kerry, Kilkenny, Killarney National Park, Cork, Co Kildare, Co Carlow, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Tiree, Cardiff, Swansea bay).:) Pubs included.:D Ireland-Wales-Scotland have high level of democracy, human rights, nonviolent history, there won't be language barriers, people are very friendly, football is traditional sport there, with rugby also. Georgia and Turkey will do everything to get thi$ EURO.

It's nice that this was cancelled because of bad relations with Serbia, Bosnian Serbs and Muslims, Croats would never accept this idea. Croatia could organize this alone, or maybe with Hungary, or Slovenia, but with these two countries - never. They start wars, non-democratic ideas, human rights are on very low levels, violent history, ideas of ethnic cleansing, persecution of Croatian Catholics through history, forgers of international and objective history, they try to steal Croatian prominent persons, language, they decline Croats, Serbs say that everyone has Serbian heritage, that they all speak Serbian language, even though Croatian language is older and Serbs never had language dictionaries until 19th century. Violent people.

Bosnian Muslims decline Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina, same as Serbs, they can't even have gay pride, security reasons, etc. Serbia organized EURO 2012 in handball: Croatian handball fans were attacked with axes and stones in Serbia. One Croatian fan was attacked with the knife and injured. Bosnian Muslims call Croats as Bosnian Catholics, even though they are Croats. Really silly environment.

Before 2,3 weeks Croatia played qualification match against Macedonia and Serbs attacked Croatian fan train with stones, they waited this train from Croatia close to their railway.

Picture shows what stone did on this train glass.

Similar thing is in Bosnia and Herzegovina, because three ethnic groups are in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Bosnian Muslims, Serbs and Croats. Clubs in their national league have different ethnic background, Bosnian Muslims and Serbs attack fans of Croatian clubs: HSK Zrinjski Mostar and NK Siroki Brijeg. It's great that this was cancelled, it would be impossible to prevent violence, Serbs also yelled derogatory sounds against English football players: they don't deserve any manifestation.

I think sporting events are overrated on the tourism front. Yeah you might get a few thousand foreign visitors per game, but compared to how many tourists a country normally gets, it's a drop in the ocean. That's not even counting the potential tourists who are turned away, or those who simply time-shift their visit to coincide with the tournament. I don't think South Africa made much out of the World Cup.

but regardless there is still a profit to be made, albeit a small one.

Not necessarily, it's likely that you could actually make a loss, and that hosting the tournament could hamper your economy.

It should 100% be Turkey, since they most deserve it. Their football league is very well developed and they would definitely not have trouble building the remaining stadiums they would need. Plus these stadiums wouldn't go to waste like in South Africa or Qatar, since they actually got teams to play on them. Plus Platini trolled them really hard in 2016 giving it to France.

I agree these 3 countries would make a great joint-host and I would definitely try to go to all 3 countries personally.

But are you seriously arguing that its good because of "very short traveling time" and also good because its "not in central Europe" in the same post? ;)

im just re-assuring some people that although they are 3 separate countries, travelling is easily done quickly between them..I brought up the "not in central europe" point just in terms of changing the scenery of football, not about travel times. :p

    From wikipedia:
Much like the Olympics it seems that the only winners in these events are the organisers, the hosts get nothing out of it.

And the answer is... no one will "host" 2020. It's going to be spread around Europe with individual FA's bidding individual venues.

Hopefully they at least allocate it to one corner or part of Europe. Not just spread it around from Moscow to Lisbon and everywhere in-between.
