The ingredient missing in your recipe is American talent getting on teams in Europe to gain experience, at least, even if they dont end up big stars in top leagues. E.G - Robbie Findley struck out in WC 2010 but his stint at Nottingham thereafter has proved advantageous as we can see from his recent play with RSL and he has been touted for Jan camp. Klinsmann has done nothing in this respect, even as he continues to favor foreign based players and shies away from calling up young talent under contract to MLS teams who might get bids from abroad. His strategy has no doubt made powerful friends but has not done much for the fan who pays the ticket.
Unless he gets fired, the decision's already been made. Jürgen and USSF have signed a new 4 year extension through 2018.

That news apparently answers the question of who "is" the next (same) coach beyond the 2014WC, but not necessarily the question of who "should be" the next coach beyond the 2014WC.
The bigger football is in a country, the less forgiving they are with the coach. Since in the USA only about 5% of the people would care, chances are JK would stick as the manager even after a humiliating three-and-out campaign.

No. But if JK comes out shitting on USSF right after the WC for whatever reason, they are going to look foolish with no recourse other than a seven or eight figure dismissal check.
