Re: Who is the bhttps://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=131est uncapped US player? Let us know when Clark is actually out of the MLS. Nothing against him, but comparing the two of them is just laughable at this point.
Allllllriiiiiight, US fans were disappointing by the absence of an Adu-like prospect, and now we have Diskerud. Now he will constantly be the guy that Bradley should call up, despite the fact that he has little experience. He's a great prospect, but can we please avoid overhyping him in a repeat of Freddy Adu? Anyway: Jermaine Jones - we know his situation. Edgar Castillo - we know his situation. Omar Gonzalaez - came on too late, could be Gooch's partner for the 2014 cycle. Chris Pontius - came on too late, should be one of the US's main attacking contributors in the next cycle. Recent events really have me questioning my faith in Whitbread and any future he may have with club and country and the same for Jemal Johnson. I will not buy into the hype about Diskerud until he shows up in the U-20 World Cup and/or a camp cupcake.
Re: Who is the bhttps://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=131est uncapped US player? I guess you have not seen Jones play yet. Comparing Jones to any of the players mentioned in this thread (Tracy, Clark, Diskerud, etc.) is an absolute joke. Jones will be one of our best players the second FIFA approves him.
Yes when I posted this thread I thought I made it pretty clear Jones and Castillo are in a different category than the other players who could be the 'best uncapped player'. Omar Gonzalez came to mind also, but he has only played 14 MLS games, of course Diskerud isn't exactly 'expereinced' either. They both should see time at the U-20 level.
Re: Who is the bhttps://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=131est uncapped US player? Keep in mind that the same assumption was made by Spain before USA open a can of whoopazz on them...Talk is easy but we need to see the guy on the field to grade him
This is not about Love or hate Castillo/Jones but guy I have heard that before...Ooooh this guy is going to show this and show that...Once he is on the field there we go another disappointment
Re: Who is the bhttps://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=131est uncapped US player? Have you ever seen either player play before? Yes or No?
Re: Who is the bhttps://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=131est uncapped US player? If you follow the sport you have seen Jermaine Jones. He's on a fairly big club in Germany who has been in the Champions League. The only question at this point is if he will recover from his injury and if he will mess well with Michael Bradley.
It's hilarious how the OP went out of his way to keep the thread from the topic of castillo and jones, but that's all anybody is talking about anyway. You have to love bigsoccer
Everybody in here that thinks Jones is inferior to anyone on our team is the exact reason Europeans use the terms "stupid American" and "dumb American".
I don't think anybody truly believes that. I just think that some people have mixed emotions about Jones joining the team, because he is only switching sides because he isn't good enough to play ahead of Thomas Hitzlsperger, Torsten Fringes, Simon Rolfes and the like. I can understand how that could be a bit off putting.
re: Peterlin I think the reason he has never played for a US youth team is because his preference is to play for Denmark. His mom is Danish, and his dad is from Slovenia, but he was born in San Francisco, so I guess he has a choice of all three, but my understanding is that he would choose Denmark over the US. I've seen him play many times for VC Fusion in the PDL, and he's OK, but not *that* great. Everton obviously see a diamond in what is currently a lump of coal, but I never expected him to make a PDL-EPL jump.
Gonzalez has started every single one of the LA Galaxy's 19 MLS matches so far this season, as well as numerous non-league matches including the recent friendly versus AC Milan. He is also likely to start their upcoming match against Barcelona. He still isn't even 21 yet. So with him being a bit older, coming up through one of the most successful college teams, and starting every single match for one of the league's best defenses, I consider him much more experienced than Diskerud, who apparently can't decide which country he wants to play for. btw, since he doesn't turn 21 until late this year, I guess that makes him eligible for the U-20 World Cup . . ? I wonder if Rongen would want him, but I wonder if Bruce would let him go for that long. A Gonzalez-Opara center pairing would arguably be one of the best in the tournament.
Gonzalez is too old for this team. He's had his turn as a youth already and has no such eligibility left.
I almost forgot a name. Eric Lichaj looks set to begin making the gameday squads with Aston Villa. That pretty much puts him at the top of my list along with Cameron.
It's not that I think Jones is inferior to anyone on our squad. In fact, he will be one of the best players on our team once he is approved. I just think some people over-estimate the level between him and the rest of our squad. Yes he is good, but so are some of our current players. (Gooch, Howard, Demps, Bradley) With that said. I welcome the addition of Jones. The man's father is an American military member, and he also lived in Miss. as well as Chicago. He's an American as far as I'm concerned.
Lichaj is a good call I also think Bob Bradley deserves some praise for letting this kid know he's on the USMNT radar. When it was announced that Lichaj was training with the USA team before the last round of WCQ's a lot of people were wondering "why?" In fact, even Eric Lichaj was stunned. But low and behold, just a few weeks after training with the USA senior team, it looks like Lichaj's career could be taking off. It seems like it was very good talent recognition by Coach Bob. http://soccer365.com/us_news/story_26509123025.php
For me the answer is Zak Whitbread. I'm interested to see which club picks him up this summer, as he's been transfer listed by Millwall. So far it seems like he'll be going to a Championship club, and we've seen what other Championship defenders can do for us (DeMerit). I haven't seen enough of MIX to know how good he is. After all, I think the Norwegian league is on par with MLS. And just because a guy is starting in playing well in MLS doesn't mean he's USMNT material. We have plenty of cases like that in MLS. So I'll have to watch more of his games to know............. The best USMNT-eligible player to never appear for the USMNT.......in history...........was Adin Brown in his prime. He was an extremely good keeper for several years, even being traded for Carlos Valderrama at one point. He did very well in New England, and then left for Europe. His backup at the time, Matt Reis, turned into a keeper who got multiple caps. Injuries caught up to Adin in Norway (and the fact he's a Christian Scientist and didn't treat his injuries in the same way others do), and now he's completely out of the picture.
I don't know, it'd seem unlikely that a 25 y/o veteran of the English system who is coming out of division 3 would be better than Lichaj or even Cameron.
OK.. I will break it down BEST UNCAPPED PROPSECT: Mix Diskerud. Eric Lichaj falls into this category too and he's just a little behind Mix. Both are just rated propsects at this moment. MY FAVORITE UNCAPPED PLAYER: Zak Whitbread. As a big Millwall fan, I have seen this guy play a number of times. He's good. PROBABLY THE BEST UNCAPPED PLAYER: Hunter Freeman. LB playing well in Norway. He is in his team's first XI every game. That's not bad.
Georff Cameron is essentially the same age as Whitbread. Eric Lichaj? What's better. A 25 year old with over 100 appearances for Millwall.................or a 20 year old player who's never made one 1st team professional appearance. Most people on here are listing Lichaj, but nobody could possibly have seen enough of him play to make that determination. Unless people are going to Aston Villa reserve matches. He did play yesterday for Villa at the Peace Cup (because Luke Young is out), but got beaten for a goal. Zak Whitbread got great reviews at Millwall over the past couple of years, and was even linked to premiership clubs last season. He's been transfer listed at Millwall, and will be playing at minimum the same level as Jay DeMerit. What age did Tim Cahill leave Millwall? Oh, that would be 25. And Millwall was sure as hell good enough for Kasey Keller.
Biased for Omar as I watched him as a youth. But, having watched him help his team win a Dallas Cup Super Group over a field that included Man U (with Rossi) and Real Madrid, along with a three-peat of US Youth National Championships, he just always seemed to have "it." Still, just sentimental provincialism by me perhaps.
Omar will certainly get a look after the WC. At this point I can't see any uncapped players other than Castillo and Jones making our world cup roster. So all we're talking about is post-2010, and all of these players will certainly get a look. Other than his bad touch that led to Lopez' goal, I thought Omar looked good for LA last night against KC.
