It's been a decade... I'm ready for a life time ban. If I am being put on everyone's ignore list I am obviously doing something right. Interestingly, I don't need to physically keep myself from seeing your post to ignore it, or think that wasted drivel from your cricket-like brain to your fingertips was worth a full cognitive read... at best a skim and keep scrolling.

Face-it, most of you are only posting on here because there's something in your nerdlike-DNA that needs to be stroked by the other nerds that gives you a sense of belonging. On a good day saying something timidly salacious, or moderately poignant gets (you) more reps from these guys than a Thai massage place doling out hand jobs.

Yes I question your fanhood. As I should I am a fan of the L.A. Galaxy. I have been one longer than most of you. go to more games than most of you. Actually live in the city unlike most of you. So, if this "Troll" as you call me has no right to check your fake fandom I say F*ck You. If your closest MLS team is not the Galaxy than support whatever team that is, we're LA we don't need your front-running we have enough of them here, there called Clipper fans.

And if you lived here and don't live here now, boo-f*cking-hoo. You mean little to the Galaxy, even if you do pay $29 to MLS Kick or whatever to watch the games on your 19" monitor while watching Landon's ex-wife sh*tty TV show on Netflix. Then back to bigsoccer to post about it immediately which sounds like this:

Penedo still out. Leonardo should never see the field again. Robbie Rogers trade worst trade of all time!. We should put AJ at CB. The Ref sucked. Japanese Anime poster guy is creeping me out. We're playing a 4-3-2-1, no it's a more like a 4-2-2-2. Juninho should shoot more. Bruce gonna put in Ishizaki yet. someone start a game thread. Robbie Rogers trade worst trade of all time!. Expect Omar to have at least one brainfart per game. What's with Japanese kiddie anime-porn seriously. Landon is still great. Where is Opare. and so on and so on.

And that's why there hasn't been a new thread on this board in like 2 years. And when someone bumps one from 7 years ago it's like new again.... it reminds us (the ones who were here then) of how it used to be, threads of conversations, not the mundane obviousness it is now. Thanks to trolls like me for keeping it interesting.

In conclusion (due to time constraints) - most of you suck. you're not real fans. I am better than all of you. Aliens probably exist and are anal-probing (SoCalYid) mother as we speak.

^ You guys actually read that and take him seriously LOL ? You guys give a random stranger off of a message board too much power over your emotions.

Funny trolling is one thing. Bitter spewing is another. It's not that he bothers me. It's more that he consistently bores me and is not worth spending my time on.

Ha, don't look where I'm from then!

The truth is that some people move away and STILL support the team, some people fall in love with a team during a short time spent near it, some people like the team because of certain players, and some people just like the colors! And yes, some people just like the team because it won 2 MLS cups in a row around the time they started watching MLS.

Some people are die-hards, and some people are causal fans. Any GOOD fanbase has both (even though some casual fans can be annoying, we NEED them to increase ratings and attendance!). It's unlikely that people that go on a message board and then pin their location on a google map to share with the board are super casual though :D.

Whats worse for TJ is he views all of us "non locals" as not true die hard fans like himself, but LA Galaxy only views his die hard fan self as a dollar sign. Which begs the question... does he live in LA or Carson? Cause the team identifies itself as LA though they don't "live" in LA. though they say that "champions live in LA" even though they don't... such bandwagon posers...

    really cool idea.

you can see most of the people here are in southern part of LA, I wonder how much that has to do with StubHub being there and answers why so few are in northern LA. might not have enough data points here to make a judgement but it's interesting.

It's crazy, I am gonna go to business school next year and one of the guys that is there now had Galaxy as his favorite team. He isn't from LA but lived there a while and is up here in SEA now. He mentioned that he liked them but didn't love the StubHub atmosphere and when he went to CLink he decided to switch to the Sounders. This is a telling story I think. Says alot about how loose a lot of MLS fans I think are since it's such a new product and you don't have the history and family history of support to forge strong ties quickly. Also might say something about stubhub

there's times when TJ goes off the cliff into hugely offensive territory - but most of the time I like reading his posts, bitter and dark as they can be. Definitely not ready for my ignore list.

I think everyone posting here is a true fan. How the f* can you not be when you take time out of your life to come on a message board and type your thoughts to other nerds that want to read about it?

There are always a few fans that are comfortable switching allegiances. I've lived around Boston and New York City, and both times I've found fans that switched between teams in the Yankees-Sox rivalry!

But I do agree that MLS and MLS clubs are still in the process of building brand loyalty. As you say it is really still a young league.

I am a die-hard fan of pretty much every pro league in the country (NFL, MLB, NBA), and I support strongly the teams that my dad supported. This opportunity didn't exist for me in MLS!

I had the same thoughts, but this is a self-selected universe of data points. So, it is not a scientific survey in any sense of the word. Without reopening the great "downtown" can of worms, you raise a cause and effect question that is interesting. Is the south cluster because of Stub Hub, or did Stub Hub get located there (in part) because LAG knew where its fan base was? IF we had done the same map in early days when LAG was at Rose Bowl, would the scatter diagram shift north. I raise these issues but have no idea what the correct answers are. (A lot of my life seems to be that way.:))

If I were in-house at LAG, I would do the same map with the addresses of the STH's just to be able to get a feel for that question. It would be a useful marketing tool. It would help shape strategies as to where the team does its billboards, community events, etc. I wonder if that has been done or not.

If they haven’t got this information this organization is in trouble. Getting location data these days is trivial.

I'm basically using this map as a planning tool for who to hit up when Mrs. TrickHog kicks me out and I need a place to watch the Galaxy game….

I was sort of curious to see exactly how much data the Galaxy were collecting on us. When you visit lagalaxy.com there are nearly 60 tracking services engaged ranging from ad networks, to social media, to standard analytics packages. Of those 60 almost all are replicated here on BigSoccer and most of the Google services are replicated on the maps in addition to Google’s other services. Because each of the sites use the same services they can track you from site to site, if you’re logged in to any service like FourSquare/Facebook/Twitter/Google then all that demographic data comes with it. It would be counter productive to compile a profile on a single user, but it would be fascinating to see just how detailed the Galaxy could get aggregating the data from all those services and associating it with their internal database of customer demographics and survey results.

Data analytics are pretty much the big thing these days so I'm sure LAG has a plethora of info and I hope they are spending money on companies that specialize in getting the data and sorting through it. Problem with this data is you don't know how many fans you COULD have if you centralized the stadium more towards downtown LA, really comes down to a chicken or the egg.

Given the quality of the marketing we have seen, I wouldn't be that sure that they are in fact using the more sophisticated methods that they could be using.

how much do you want to bet that their marketing plan is to come on bigsoccer and ripoff what we say/do?

although that would mean their product would be much better and more polished... o_O

They should just pay us and make us the marketing team, we could definitely do a better job than the crap we have seen lately

Sure you can. I just finished building a system that helps a restaurant chain determine where existing locations should expand their delivery areas to maximize sales and which areas they should explore when opening a new location based on various online and internal data. It's of course only one metric in determining the viability of a new location, but it absolutely can define demand and predict customer flow.

But, wasn't that pretty much the thought process on the HDC? Remember, it went up at a time that there were still huge questions as to whether the league had long term viability. At minimum, it was an incredible leap of faith.

Oh for sure it was, and there wasn't enough momentum or critical mass to be picky, AEG got what it could get within it's budget/price etc.

Fortunately for us, we're well beyond that point now, and we can have a legitimate discussion on where moving from a 11 year old stadium that's still pretty damn nice would make sense.

I just have to think that if AEG had data and a realistic idea that by moving to downtown they'd get a sounders-esque boom and sell out a 30-40k stadium week in and week out, that they wouldn't be too shy about doing it.
