No, he hasn't, but the point remains that unless attendance improves, that team is going to be dependent upon his willingness to dig into his pockets to fund the losses. That's not unique in the soccer world, but it's not a good economic model IMO.
I totally agree. It's not good economics. Sports are generally not great economics, unless/until it comes time to sell a franchise. One of the advantages of MLS, though, is that it has a structure that has allowed for it to keep afloat on the backs of people who really believe in it. I suppose it's possible that the other investors will get tired of carrying each other at some point, but isn't the entire model based on one-office employing all of the players and paying the wages (with the DP exception) and making cash calls if necessary to keep the league office working? I'm not sure what kind of flexibility they have within the contractual arrangement of the league structure to rid themselves of each other. And if i recall correctly, what happened in Miami was the owner there at the time wanted out - didn't want to put another dime into it - and neither AEG, the Hunts, or Kraft wanted to take it on.
By the way, rather than admitting they are failing, it appears that CUSA is trying to move the other direction with the hiring of former CUSA player Paco Palencia as "director of soccer" for Chivas, with his main goal stated to be raising interest in the team/attendance for CUSA. "For now, the priority in the US will be to increase attendance at the stadium — and we already have some projects in the works to reach that goal — and to support the team." http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...ncia-moving-los-angeles-focus-plan-chivas-usa

Not too long... A thread on the subject re-surfaced almost on an annual basis since 2003, and the latest were in 2013.
Wow, haven't recall seeing any coaches readily thrown in the towel like these, without even spending some efforts to find any "Silver Lining" from a setback: Chivas USA coach Chelis philosophical following latest loss: "This is just our level" http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...sophical-following-latest-loss-just-our-level
I really don't see anything working to get stadium attendance higher unless they moved out of the HDC, rebranded in some way and put together a competitive squad. And Paco Palencia has no control over any of that.
Chivas USA's problems are less about the market they're in or that they're sharing a market than about the fact that they don't know what they're doing.
When will MLS admit Chivas USA is a failed experiment? hmmm...good question. here are some more questions for you to amuse yourself over.... When will MLS admit Toronto FC is a failed experiment (since they have never made the postseason in their existence )? [Yet Chivas USA, although not recently , have made the playoffs in the past under Bob Bradley and Preki.] When will MLS admit NE Revs is a failed experiment (since Bob Kraft doesnt give two s#*ts about putting money into the team ala the many complaints their own fans have had since their existence )? [Yet, over the years Vergara has spent on designated players and showed willingness to splash cash on top players...ie Juan Pablo Angel, Paco Palencia and Amado Guevara and top coaches ie Westerhoff, Bob Bradley and Chelis who dont come cheap, unlike Jay Heaps] Krafts...staunch proponents of the "pay as little as you can" mindset from MLS ownership. Here is the best question MLS bigsoccer posters should ask , why ....
....why ...why not admit that you hate CHIVAS USA because it has mexican ownership when you dont nearly complain about an unsuccessful Canadian team and an unsuccessful American team who have fared just as poorly in club management as Chivas USA has???
I am not even mexican or Mexican American but all this hate towards Chivas USA is quite repetitive and quite frankly boring...surely there are more constructive debates to be had other than the"lets hate on Chivas USA again" threads .... like "lets hate NYCFC because they have foreign ownership too" ...
The problem is not the provenance of the owners but their attitude. They've done multiple things throughout the years disrespecting MLS and non-Mexicans. They could have easily been a team that was Hispanic oriented without doing those things.
Chivas isn't a failed experiment because they lose games (although they do lose a lot of games). The reason why Chivas is a failed experiment is because no one wants to see them play. I don't think that this is the sort of problem that would be fixed just by throwing money at it either, CUSA will probably continue to be a team that no one wants to watch as long as Vergara continues to treat it as Guadalajara's reserve team.
