I'm sure he's a maniac. My point was, even with a prolific, powerful, maniacal goal scorer, you're not guaranteed to put one in during a 45 minute defensive lockdown. Maybe your chances are decent, but scoring a goal is never guaranteed.
I hear all that you say and agree with much of it. But in my humble opinion Sabo is not a bad player but isn't good enough for this team and will consequently let you down at some crucial point. As to comparisons with Barca - there is none, they are in a different universe for quality. It's a similarity of approach "you can't score if we've got the ball" Enough said
You're full of shit Sabo showed tonight what he does for this squad each and every game. I challenge you haters to go watch all the little things Sabo does for this squad and then come back and tell me he isn't one of our most valuable players. He gets the shit constantly kicked out of him yet still finds a way to find the back of the net
Nothing made me crazier the first couple seasons than the panicked "long ball to nowhere" tactic. Please don't tell me you want to watch more of that. I mean, yeah, pinpointed long ball to a target striker would be awesome ... but that just never seems to happen with this club.
I feel we've incorporated this into our flowing system, actually, people just refuse (for some reason) to admit it. Who do goal kicks always get targeted for? Sabo When the defense is under pressure who do they target for a long release? Sabo When we have the ball wide near midfield, who are we looking for with an early service? Sabo Sabo is a target guy. We just don't tell him to stand on the last defender and act as a backboard or to sprint onto countless through balls like other teams do
All the little things like ... losing the ball easily leading to TFC's penalty ..... losing the full back he was marking to give him an easy header for TFC's first goal..... How did you know I was constipated?
Sabo and Espindola. When both are out there teams have a heck of a time defending any long balls. That stretches defenses, keeping them from overly compacting the midfield which allows the passing control game to develop. You need both, just like in pointy ball. You need a running game (controlled the ball) game to pull in defenses so that the long pass is more effective and vice versa.
I will give you the PK play, not that smart. The second goal not so much. Sabo stayed with him but Henry made a pretty good leap climbing over his own player and one of ours to get to the ball. If RSL has a guy on the back post instead of leaving open wide like a barn door maybe everybody gets bailed out on that play. Sabo nearly had a hat trick last night. Name one other player on the field last night that was as dangerous? On either team. Maybe if he smiled more and had more of a personality on the field the love would come for him. Instead you can either choose to appreciate his effort, or not.
An interesting post on the topic of posession and SOG from Zonal Marking: http://www.zonalmarking.net/2012/05/04/the-relationship-between-possession-and-shots/ There's no MLS data in the article, but that would be an interesting follow up. Especially as we get further into the season.
