I heard them talking about it on KNBR this morning....they might even have a hockey team there. arena plans to Mission Bay
According to an interview yesterday with Joe Lacob, the opposite seems to be true: the Warriors' new arena will be built specifically for basketball games and music concerts only (there are apparently some differences between the configuration of a basketball-only arena and a basketball/hockey arena). Just heard this morning on KBR that an ice sheet will be placed over the basketball arena for possible Ice shows and even hockey.
Was that from KNBR's mindless talking heads or from a Warriors source? The Warriors have said no to hockey which isn't surprising because I can see it being used temporarily for ice shows particularly in the offseason, but hockey it would be cost prohibitive to keep moving ice in and out for a team given the season overlap with hockey. That and there's no team that would take the offer. Minor league hockey is a proven failure in SF, and the Sharks have a sweetheart deal in San Jose that Lacob would be hard pressed to match if he ever wants to pay off the billion dollar private price tag of the new SF arena. And I don't think the NHL will be granting the Bay Area a second hockey team any time soon. Not with cities like Seattle already ahead in line and of course the Sharks having rights to the whole region.
Not sure. Some guy came on with Murph and Mack stating he used to own a hockey team and said he may have hockey but for sure Ice shows.....

He said he owned a hockey team and he may want to again. Not sure if he will live that long though. I think these owners somewhere think they are invincible. I mean he will be 76 by the time the arena opens.....

I was there. Very disappointing game. LA fans were at their worst too by the third throwing popcorn at me and generally being obnoxious. On the plus side at least the Clippers managed to beat the Warriors.
