Whats your favorite team in the Premier League? But give real reasons why you like the team, for example the style of play the team has etc....not just because you like 1 or 2 specific players..
Chelsea FC. First Premiership side I saw play (along with Middlesbrough in the 97 FA Cup). Zola made me a fan of the club, kept reading up on the history, was exstatic when Roman came in with the CA$H, Jose is the best manager in the WORLD (kiss my ass Fergie), everyone hates them out of jealousy. I've been here before the billions, I'll be here after.
I'm a Liverpool fan because my buddy Lee is a Liverpool fan. We are work colleagues here in the US, but Lee is from England. Our company is virtual, so we only get together occasionally for F2F work. During one of our meetings in Atlanta in May 2005 Lee walked in with a soccer jersey on and said he wouldn't be working with us in the afternoon. He was going to a pub to watch his football team play for the European championship. "Who's your team?" asked I. "Liverpool," said he, and of course that's the day they came back from 0-3 down to beat AC Milan on penalties. Last year we were working together in Germany and he thought our trip would coincide with the FA Cup final, so I bought a Liverpool shirt so I could join him in a pub for the match. Turned out he got the schedule wrong, but I kept my shirt and I've been a fan since. This year we watched the Champions League final together in that same Atlanta pub, but sadly the result was different. But thanks to Lee I'm hooked.
My dad grew up a Stoke / Port Vale fan so the closet logical EPL team is Man Utd. But I'm partial to northen clubs, I.E. Liverpool, Newcastle... you get the point, but I have a hatred for Chelsea which runs deep, i'd take West Ham or Spurs, Gooners, Villa anyday over those bums in blue. I dislike drogba especially in the box he pulls on clothes more than a Thai whore, and robben is the best european actor since ronaldo... the rest are class acts ie Terry, lampard, cole, whright-phillips.
I've been a Spurs fan since the 2005-2006 season. I had always been one of those Americans who cheered for Manchester United but during that season I fell hard for Spurs, even more when they lost out on the Champions League at the end with a shady case of food poisoning. I really like the squad but more than that I like the team's history, particularly the nickname Yids and why their supporters turned that around and made it a point of pride, as well as White Hart Lane. I plan to go there some day very soon to see them in person. I kind of became as Spurs fan when I became more intense in my following of the league...I had followed it since I was 15 but only during that season, combined with the 2006 World Cup did I become a seriously committed fan, though my love for soccer has existed since I was like 5. I don't quite hate Arsenal yet but I imagine that as soon as Wenger leaves I'll develop it some more. I've got too much respect for him to hate on Arsenal - plus Fabregas and Van Persie are sick.
I'm a Yank so I can't claim local affiliation or birthright and I'm not going to pretend to be a long-suffering fan. With complete honesty, I became an Arsenal fan for three reasons: 1. On my first trip to England, I was determined to see a Premiership team play. The Gunners were the only London team playing at home on that weekend. A trip to Highbury and I was in love. Maybe it would have happened at any stadium. 2. Nick Hornby. Yeah, I can admit it. I had read and enjoyed High Fidelity. And after my trip to Highbury, I devoured "Fever Pitch." Loved it. 3. The advent of Fox Soccer Channel in the U.S. coincided with the Wenger era and the Gunner's really standing out for their attractive style of play. I just loved watching them.
Arsenal!!! 1) Best football on the planet. 2) Best manager on the planet. 3) Best young players on the planet. Great history; lots of French players makes a Francophone happy.
Good replies so far...where are all the rest of the true Premiership fans..with real passion and knowledge of the team they adore so much? come on people...
I have to give reading my vote, my sister used to live in Newbury and I often saw the Royals play , before they Moved to the Madjeski stadium.. the fans were great.. and with the 3 Irish lads playing for them, I always hope they do well
Newcastle United. I had a friend in college who was a fan and at the same time I was getting into soccer, he was listening to Newcastle games every weekend. He introduced me to the club and got me hooked. I liked a few other teams at first, but everything about Newcastle matches my likes and dislikes in US sports. It was a natural fit and I really can't explain it any other way.
while i like to watch any game thats on(enjoying Tottenham) i will always love the way manchester united play. WE TOOK OUR CUP BACK!!! chelsea is free to try again next year. glory glory man united.
Being in the US, I can't claim any local affiliation with any team in England's top flight (UK/British ancestry is Scottish in the 1600's and Irish at some point in the 1700's, along with a fair bit of German from the mid 1800's). The first team I ever saw play in TV was Ipswich Town. It was their first season in the top flight in their recent 2 season stint. It was late in the season, but it was the first day I had FSC, and they were home to Man City. I think both Ipswich and Man City had gotten promoted the season before, and while Ispwich was doing fine (secured a UEFA Cup spot), Man City wasn't. At some point during the game, the Ipswich fans started into a chant that I think was: Blue Moon You got promoted to soon So now you're going back down And Europe's coming to Town And I thought that was awesome! Followed Ipswich all the next (pretty poor) season, but they've not been back since. So I would put Ipswich as the team in England I would love to follow the most, but they're not in the Premier League (and I've tried a satellite at my current residence a few years ago, and due to some recpetion issues, it's just really not possible, so I'm not really able to get Setanta and their Championship matches unless Comcast in Indy adds it, then I'll subscribe from day 1). So for Premier League teams, by far the team I like to watch the most is Arsenal. Most attractive to watch, and that's pretty much my top priority, since none of the teams are any that I have other ties to. I did like watching Reading last season, and do follow Fulham (due to the Americans), and sometimes Spurs are fun to watch, but Arsenal are who I would want to win the title if forced to choose a team of the current 20.
