What ya watched lately? : THE MOVIE THREAD

I got my wife a Kindle Fire for Christmas, and she finished the first Hunger Games book on it in two days. She just started on the other two books.

I haven't heard that. I have no idea why anybody would want to visit the places in that film.

I saw Lars von Trier's Dogville the other day and was blown away by it. Great movie. 9/10.

Also saw Luis Bunuel's The Exterminating Angel for the first time and loved it as well. 9/10. For whatever reason I decided to watch Bunuel's The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie before this one. They are similar films but sort of inverted.

I watched Midnight in Paris yesterday which contains an inside joke about The Exterminating Angel in it.

Did you like it? I love Woody Allen and really enjoyed Midnight in Paris. The Exterminating Angel joke was really funny as well.

My favorite part of the movie as Dali (Adrien Brody). That entire bit cracked me up.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

After hearing friends and others hype it up, I was a bit letdown. Wasn't nearly as good as I thought it was going to be.

7/10 (being nice)

My wife and I have been curious about "Black Swan".
Anyone seen it?

I was more than pleasantly surprised. And I, up to the point of seeing it, was really dragging my feet til I sat down.

Normally, I cannot stand Woody Allen, but I thoroughly enjoyed Midnight in Paris. It was slight and there were a few plot points that really didn't work for me (anything involving the annoying parents) but I liked it. I do think I could bounce through time with Marion Cotillard pretty easily so I wouldn't have rushed back to the present.

It sort of reminded me of Field of Dreams for art and literature fanatics.

Planning to see "Warhorse" and "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" in the next couple of days.

I love Black Swan. I think it's Aronofsky's best work, except maybe for The Fountain.

Anywhere she wants to go, I will follow.

I gotta see the Fountain then because nothing to me could be better than Requiem for a Dream

Requiem is great. I think I don't rate it as highly because of how dark it is. I try to be objective but that's impossible. I know most people have Requiem rated higher than his other works, but The Fountain gets a lot of praise as well.

I didn't care for it. Interesting film idea, but
seeing someone go mad and obsessively destroy
herself over the course of 100 minutes is not my
idea of a good time.

don't really watch too many movies (more of a tv show guy), but caught some flicks on vacation last week.

50/50 was really good somewhat dark comedy.
win, win was enjoyable. always a fan of paul giamatti
margin call was solid. maybe more for people who work in finance industry.

is that still in theaters (50/50)? Ive been looking on HBO and Showtime Demand for that one and nothing. Did you rent that flick?

That's a bummer. I tend to be in the minority with my opinions. At least you got to see two chicks go at it.

I loved Pi, so was quite hopeful for this film.

i watched it online. not sure if it's on demand yet, but probably should be soon.

Saw the film around Christmas, good movie that was very dark. My wife had read the books, but I started them after seeing the movie. A pretty good read thus far.

I really enjoyed the novels and am interested to see the movies. Some very interesting cast choices that will either make it great or ruin it.
