Am I the only one here who is ridiculously excited for Skyfall to come out in less than a month?

altho its post-filmed Imax instead of being filmed with Imax during like dark knight rises was.

Saw this at the library, never heard of it, but decided to watch it b\c it has a ton of stars and is about Operation Market Garden - the allies' biggest failure of WW2. It's an epic, almost 3 hours long, but does a great job of portraying exactly what happened (and what went wrong) for the allies. It also doesn't demonize the Germans, which sometimes turns war movies into caricatures. Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Lawrence Olivier, Robert Redford, Anthony Hopkins, James Caan, Elliott Gould, etc. If you have an interest in WW2 and 3 hours to kill - check it out.

Been a while since I've seen that one.....a classic.

Ok, the last few movies Ive seen

Saw Silver Lingings Playbook. Really dug that story. I feel Jennifer Lawrence will get nominated for an Oscar. Really dug how they spun the typical rom dramedy. Great movie, good writing.

Cloud Atlas was a mind fucc. Some of it is inconsistent, but I liked it. I can see people not liking it tho since it 3 hours, lol.

Saw, The Master. The story let down some great acting performances by Phoenix, Adams, and Hoffman. The movie covers Scientology, buts is not entirely about Scientology, imo.

Saw Flight last Thursday. Man, that movie was excellent. The trailer doesnt give the whole story. Its a good film about what is heroism.

Saw Lincoln last night. Felt very cheesy, but the performances of Daniel Day Lewis, James Spader, and Tommy Lee Jones made up for it. Not a great movie, but really good. Very dialogue heavy, but I enjoyed it

I was worried about the cheese factor in Lincoln. Without any spoilers, was the score over-the-top? I feel like Spielberg often relies too much on an overly emotional soundtrack and it can sometimes take away from what's happening on screen. The Warhorse trailer is a perfect example. I actually started a slow clap at the end of that trailer because it was so fu*king melodramatic!

I'm hearing great things about Skyfall. Can't wait to see Bardem in that. I'll have to check out Flight as well.

The scenes with the House of Rep were hilarious

I was really disappointed in "Flight", actually. Denzel is outstanding, as always, but I had a very difficult time connecting with the character. John Goodman's scenes, while pretty funny, also felt completely disconnected from the rest of the film and entirely out of place. Oh well.

I replaced my old copy of Gimme Shelter on BD not long ago and sat down and watched it tonight.

First, it would have been incredible to see a line-up including Santana, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Jefferson Airplane, CSNY and the Rolling Stones. (Things got so bad there that the Dead refused to play).

Second, I came of age in an era dominated by the cynicism/nihilism of the punk era where Altamont was something of a running joke for its sense of foolish, naive optimism. For that reason, I never quite "got" what Altamont was all about. I mean what kind of idiot thinks hiring the Hells Angels for security was a good idea?

Nevertheless, the Maysles' brothers' documentary captures not only the Stones at the height of their powers during their "decadent" period but also the sense of a collective bad trip among the crowd where the peace and love feelings of Woodstock devolve into naked self-interest and violence.

As cool as the Stones' music during that era was, and as bad-ass as their Satanic Majesties persona was intended to be, the Stones come across as total wannabes next to the genuine evil of the Hells Angels hired as security for the event.

The murder in front of the stage was captured on film and serves as a stunning reminder of the "Death of the 60's." In its way, it's as important a piece of footage as the Zapruder film was for defining the times.

speaking of cheesy Im still trying to figure out it was necessary to even have Goodman's character which I thought was OTT and overacted. Without giving spoilers, was it really necessary?

I was entertained I suppose but I felt afterwards that the movie could've been a made for TV drama and been similar in entertainment value.

I saw Skyfall and I feel like I need to see it again.

I enjoyed it, but some parts of it felt a little off to me...I don't know, I didn't get a good feel for the film.

I was very disappointed, especially with all the praise it's getting. The film had no heart and never really took off for me. I was waiting for some kind of catalyst or event to spark life into the film but it never came.

Plot was pretty clunky and downright boring at times. I love Bardem as an actor but his villain, while bat shit crazy, didn't strike much fear in me. And that whole final sequence at Skyfall and in the chapel was such a strange finale. Plus, this movie wasn't even that much about Bond at all. It was too much about M and her legacy. Sorry, but I'm paying $13 to see Bond shoot bad guys and bed hot women.

Casino Royale really raised the bar for what a Bond film could be. That was a damn near perfect action/suspense film. I hope they can get the franchise back on track.

Life of Pi is one of the most visually stunning movies Ive ever seen.

Care to elaborate? What were the film's strengths? In what ways was it superior to Casino Royale? The only aspect of Skyfall that I thought might better was cinematography.

Really enjoyed lincoln. More than I thought I would. It actually made political bargaining/posturing interesting and exciting, which isn't easy. Parts of the score were typically spielbergian and overdramatic/cheesy and the subplot with joseph gordonn levitt could have been cut altogether. Otherwise, very good film. It can probably go without saying, Daniel Day Lewis was incredible. Straitharn was good too.

I pretty much assumed the film would be great, but I didn't expect it to be as fun as it was. Also - interesting how 'camp' the House of Reps scenes were.

Yeah, I think Prince mentioned the house of rep debate scenes earlier. Agreed, they were really funny. That anecdote lincoln gave about ethan allen and the portrait of george washington in the bathroom was soooo good.

Also, I'm kind of stoked about zero dark thirty. I think it's going to be good. Loved Hurt Locker

I saw Skyfall today. I thought it was very good.

It's been so long since I've seen Casino Royale that it's impossible to say which is better. I do remember liking CR a lot and I like this one a lot too.

Bardem was great. And I actually liked that the plot pulls away from Bond and focuses on someone else. It was a smart move for me.

they showed the trailer for Django today at the theaters. That looks like it's going to be a great f---ing time. I'm excited for it.
