ur right. The end of greece has just started. I think they not gonna qualify from the group stage.

I think Turkey is better then Greece.

Based of results. This Group can be won by anyone. I am now, convinced that the Greeks cannot retain their form, like at Euros.

I would have been very happy picking up a point againt Greece if we would have beat Georgia, but a point on the road is not bad.

The Olympics finally did harm the NT a bit.

Most of the Greek players have no official games yet... :(

The team shows sparks of class and then falls again to mediocre performance.

I was impressed with the Turkish Pressing in the first half too! But they got also a bit tired in the second half.

We need to work hard now to qualify from this group.

    England 66,

May I ask exactly where your hostility towards Greece is derived from? You've utilized this and several other posts to deride the Greek side, for no apparent reason. If you were of Turkish or Albanian descent, I may be able to see it (although that would be foolish also). However, even the Turkish and Albanian posts are more objective.

I've learned a long time ago that envy is the sincerest form of flattery. No matter what you write and/or say, history will always reflect that Greece was the EURO 2004 champs. NO ONE CAN EVER TAKE THAT AWAY. So thanks for spending a significant portion of your time posting negative comments about HELLAS. we've obviously had some effect on you. I, on the other hand (along with virtually every other Greek) have spent more time thinking about where I'll eat breakfast than about England.

In closing, I'll join the rest of my Greek compatriots in singing:

"Sikose to, to gamimeno, tora pia, tora pia den perimeno".

    SKASILA SOU.

    fbkane,

I may be late to join this thread, but Turkey is always a tough opponent for Greece.

Turkey is much like Greece in that they employ a fast, physical, direct style of play. Combine that with the "rivalry" aspect of the match and its relative importance, and it was easy to see that Greece would have its hands full.

Lets not forget that Turkey were a World Cup semi-finalist. But then again, reading some of these nonsense posts one would think that Turkey, like Greece, were merely "lucky" in achieving those results. You don't just get "lucky" in tournaments like the EC and WC. Some of the established world soccer powers have a hard time coming to the realization that soccer in Greece and Turkey has improved dramatically. If they would pay closer attention, they would notice.

I saw the match, and it appeared even, although both sides were somewhat sloppy at times. Nothing spectacular, just a hard fought tie. Greece can not be all that disappointed with the result.

    Fener,

I'm not sure if it's jealousy or just plain unadultered arrogance. The English have a fantastic league (Premiership) and some outstanding club sides, but their national team leaves a lot to be desired, and has left a lot to be desired for a long, long time. Yet you listen to their fans, and it's as if they're the only country in the world that plays the game. Come on England, get off your high horse. The results say otherwise.

As for Greece playing boring soccer, the English are the one's to talk. That's like the pot calling the kettle black. If I wanted to see 11 brutes kick the ball in the air aimlessly and then run after it with reckless abandon, I'd watch Aussie Rules football. That's what the English NT game is all about. Outside of an absolutely magnificent Wayne Rooney, what else is there to watch? Michael Owen needs lots of space to utilize his amazing speed (for the most part, his only asset) and David Beckham is worried that a hair may fall out of place. The rest are just a pedestrian lot of journeymen footballers.

I call it like I see it, and when Turkey made the WC semis I was rooting for them. Not because I believe they're one of the 4 best teams in the world, but because they deserved it. They played a simple, direct game, and showed incredible heart and character. They also had several players who displayed world class talent (the goalkeeper, one of the flank midfielders with the distinct haircut, and one of the attackers) even though their names escape me for the moment. (I believe Rekber is the keeper & the field players are Sas and Sukur).

So am I supposed to deny the blatantly obvious and criticize Turkey because of some nonesense rivalry that exists based on events occurring hundreds of years ago?

I dont have anything to say to their leagues or clubs, but their national team is just lagging.

Lagging is the not the word. For the most part, they've been awful (relative to their "reputation"). And if England 66 doesn't remember correctly, the last time Greece played England, only a spectacular free kick tally from Beckham in injury time saved the Brits from a "humiliating" tie at home to the "lowly" Greeks. Can anyone tell me the last time MIGHTY ENGLAND produced a truly world class superstar? All the other "soccer superpowers" do so on a regular basis. I'll give the English Wayne Rooney. He's absolutely FANTASTIC. But Beckham? Owen? Come on. Need a little more than that. Who else have they produced? Gascgoine is questionable. May have to go all the way back to Keegan. And don't tell me Lineker. Plenty of "goal poachers " like him in Europe. Hoddle? Borderline. Barnes? For a short period of time.

Let's not foget that many of the English premiership British superstars were/are NOT English (Ian Rush, Mark Hughes, Ryan Giggs, Roy Keane, etc...)

And Fener, can you please tell me who that wonderful Turkish flank midfielder is? Or is he from Galatasarray and you're just not saying? OK, OK, I'll admit that your Fener boy Rekber is truly world class also.

I have said that you should all continue to enjoy the fact that greece won euro 2004...........cherish the memory as I do not believe you have a hope in hell(as) of it being repeated...(kind of like England after'66)....except I do remember that after greece had qualified for USA '94 they went to England ( who hadn't qualified) and lost 5-0....greece had their days in the sun...I don't believe they will make the 2006 world cup....time will tell and if I'm wrong I'll be the first to hold my hand up....

You still haven't directly replied to any of my posts. Funny that an England supporter should be one to flap his gums, as your last bit of joy occurred nearly 40 years ago (as your name aptly reflects). Wasn't the ball square way back then? Hell, Hungary was a world power then also (remember the ass-kickings they administered to your beloved Brits?), yet where are they now? Maybe you can suit up Booby Charlton, Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst, Gordon Banks, etc..... Hell, your post '66 "accomplishments" indicate you may as well.

What I remember on July 4th is Greece hoisting the f-----g cup and England watching. Maybe England can hoist Beckham's pony tail so it doesn't get in his eyes when taking penalty kicks.

Look forward to your articulate and eloquent response(s).

Sikose to, to gamimeno, tora pia, tora pia den perimeno!!!!!

    Original,

Neither of us needs to say anything. The historic and memorable scene of Zagorakis hoisting the Cup says it all. Let the rest of the miserable ---------
who waste valuable space on this board bitching and moaning about Greece stew in their pity and misery.

    SKASILA TOUS!!!

Re: AEK Athens: What has happened to Tsiartas, Lakis, & Kasapis?

To all AEK fans, what has happened to these three? I've been out of the loop for a bit and haven't heard anything. And is it true that Christos Kostis is playing this year? I know he had suffered a serious injury, but that was several years ago. What's his form like now? How old is he? If we could get the old Kostis back, that would be wonderful. What a player he was when he first came over from Iraklis!!!!!!

You have obviously not watched the English national team lately....they do not play any more long balls than anyone else...and haven't for years...if you would ever think before you post you would realise this fact....yesterday against wales England kept possession and totally dominated the game...

I gave an opinion....greece will not make the 2006 WC...

you gave yours......in a little while we will see who was correct.....

Sure. England is just OVERFLOWING with technically skilled players who play the ball to the feet. NAME ONE (outside of the recently called up and superb Rooney). Not Beckham, with his proclivity for long, bending crosses from the flank (really awful when asked to assume a central playmaking role). Not Owen and his runs into space. Who else? Scholes? Give me a break. England still plays cementhead football.

As for Wales, aren't they your "farm" team? Sort of like Greece bragging about a win against Cyprus. And by the way, in any England v. Wales match, Ryan Giggs is the best player on the pitch.

your ignorance is overflowing.....Scholes has retired from international play...

Giggs was hardly in the game yesterday...you should read some of the reports...

quite often England strings twenty or more passed together as anyone who actually watches them play can tell you...

again...I gave an opinion....you gave yours...time will tell....

Twenty or more CONSECUTIVE passes??? What are you smoking? NO ONE, not even BRAZIL, does that. Why couldn't they string together more than a couple passes in the EURO?

As for Scholes, I know that. He just RECENTLY retired. You were talking about England not having played long balls for YEARS, not just now.

As for Giggs, even when on the bench, he's still better than anything England has to offer. He's proven that time and again at MAN U.

as for my "brilliance" or lack thereof, anytime you want to measure intelligence, just let me know. Unless you have SEVERAL Phd's hanging from your wall, you can tell your story walking.

P.S. I have your chamois ready anytime you're ready to polish our EURO 2004 trophy. SIKOSE TO, TO GAMIMENO.........................................................
