i don't know where i've been, but i completely missed Turin Brakes. i went to allmusic and listened to Ether Song's samples. very reminiscent of Travis. thank you for posting this. do you recommend their whole catalog? where does one start if "the quintessential" is wanted?
Here's a post of mine from 5/2012 that I think still fits the bill. There is a "greatest hits" album that covers their first 4 (of 5) studio albums. Bottled at Source is probably the best place to get an overall feel. Otherwise, I'd start with The Optimist (or, heck, I'd buy The Optimist and Ether Song at the same time. ) Good news for Turin Brakes fans -- their first new (studio) album since '10 is coming out in late September. http://www.turinbrakes.com/splash/tbindex.html
Well, hell, I knew the new Turin Brakes album was coming out soon, but I hadn't been to their website in awhile and wasn't so consistent a twitter reader last year as this. Olly Knights (the lead singer of Turin Brakes) released a solo album last October. I'll be getting that!
A bit surprised to find this Blu-Ray at my public library this morning as I was returning a few things. Listening to it on the desk top. Looking forward to watching it. A bit weird to hear words like "shithole" and "ti***es" sung in opera, but... Anna Nicole, C. by Mark-Anthony Turnage, L. by Richard Thomas (2011). Will probably actually watch it this weekend. Would be NSFW if anyone was around.
