From the box set of Mahler symphonies conducted by Klaus Tennstedt, Symphony #6 I read not long ago that Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh listened to this while on acid shortly before forming the Dead. I can see a bad trip as a result, or at the very least, a relatively short, strange one.
35. TNGHT - Tnght (2012) So happy this was only an EP. This is becoming a chore at times to get through. I like a lot of what's dubbed "instrumental hip-hop," but this felt like a bunch of the same old tired tricks.
34. CHAIRLIFT - Something (2012) Not sure if I'm going to revisit this one or not. A few tracks really grabbed me and I liked the woman's voice, but a huge chunk of it just sounded like generic synth-pop....and I love some synth-pop.
ACTRESS - R.I.P. (2012) Here's another I knew nothing about going in, but found myself REALLY enjoying. Definitely going to pick this one up at some point. Samples
I don't know this one. But it makes me think I might give these two a listen when I get home... A Love Supreme: The Legacy of John Coltrane, by the Turtle Island String Quartet. And Quartet San Francisco Plays (Dave) Brubeck. Both are pretty clever and interesting translations of jazz in to string quartet.
