Limbaugh and the rest of the screamers are all over this fantasy. 'He CANT be president. He just CANT. There has to be something!! The will of the people be damned. We cant have a president who isnt a schill of the industrialists.'

So its onto this birth certificate crap. He isnt in Hawaii to say goodbye to his Grandmother (Socialists dont have Grandmothers you know. They dont have navels either. Ever seen Barack Husseins navel, huh? Well, have you?) Hes there, with the guy from the heist movies, you know, the one in the green visor, forging a birth certificate.

I wont call it an overhand full court shot at the buzzer, or needing to hole a 4-iron for eagle on 18 because the rest of the event just isnt that close.

Its worse than that.

What were looking at is the kernel of an organized attempt to alter the Electoral College post election. Even after Obama takes 300 electoral votes the hard right will still try to overthrow the vote. If that happens expect rioting, and destruction worse than after MLK was killed. I swear Ill be there too.

I've read two letters to the editor in my local paper that called for the end of the Electoral College. I tried in earnest to recall seeing any such calls in previous election years, and I have not been able to remember any.

This sort of thing should put to rest any claims about the Dems being the party of whiners.

Wingnutters, not a pithy lot.

I've called for an end to the electoral college for years now. It's not an especially radical or racist belief to hold.

Fair enough- I just never saw it in my local Letters is all. Of course, with all that's happened over the past eight years, I probably have forgotten some things.

It was one of my county convention's suggested planks for the 2004 elections. I spent over an hour trying to talk people out of it, unsuccessfully.

(My contention is that the winner-take-all part should be dropped. My reasoning for retaining the rest is that a recount of the whole country if its only, say, Florida that's in question is Pandora's box squared.)

After Kerry lost in 2000, these boards were all about getting rid of the EC.

I just had a thread going a couple weeks ago about eliminating the winner take all part of the EC, and I got slated for it. Not sure why, there's nothing in the Constitution that says it has to be that way (and isn't in Maine and Nebraska).

I think you were reamed for suggesting that Governors decide the allocation of electoral votes.

Partly for that (and that's fine, it was just something I threw out there), but not totally. Is ok, I'm used to it by now.

(EDIT: The suggestion was for Governors to get one electoral vote for themselves, one going to the statewide winner, and the rest by congressional district.)

I think it's funny all this talk of Obama being born outside the country when we know for a fact that John McCain wasn't, being born in the Panama Canal Zone.

The issue came up in 1964 too, because while Goldwater was born in Arizona, he was born there while it was a territory, not a state... but I don't think anyone seriously suggested he should be disqualified, it just struck people as interesting.

Dropping the winner-take-all part is sometimes brought up by the party who loses a particular state... 'we lost the state but it should have been 60-40, not 100-0'. Naturally, the party who wins the state always disagrees. There's a movement in California right now about it. The underdog Repubs like it, the Democrats don't.
