I like the youth movement up front - Arnautovic/Avdic. Could be something in the making and I'm liking more the way Avdic is aware of the space around him and aggressivness on the ball. Shame about the edit in the vid, it would be nice if the clips were longer. Swedes got something against techno trax in the backround? Jk, nice to here the announcer say Avdic is "friggety frum" (3':15) that I assume means "good lad" in Swedish. Hope they get him and move on to some defensive signings.

A newspaper reports that the deal is done. Avdic did the medical check today and signed until June 2014, 2 million € transfer fee.

    Almeidas successor arrived

The transfer was confirmed Allofs this afternoon and Avdic joins the team to the training camp in Belek, Turkey. There we do our first test match this wednesday vs. Trabzonspor.

This is great news! I hope he fits in like Wesley did and keeps Wagner out of the starting 11. Although I appreciated some of Almieda's critical goals, contribution-wise he didn't shoot alot or kick the game up a notch as a sub. Let us know how Wednesday's performance unfolds...and thanks for the news :)!

    Today some negative news:
Naldo, Wesley and Boenisch could not join the team to the trainings camp and in Naldos case it looks very bad. It is quite likely that he will finish the season without a single match for Werder. :(

Oh man that's bad news indeed. Luckily Proedl has been playing pretty well and showing his worth. Boenisch being out for much longer is a greater concern.

The first test match ended 1-1 vs. Trabzonspor.

The Turkish top ranked team had a better start and scored after 4 minutes. Mid of the first half Werder managed to better into the match and Pizarro scored the equalizer 5 minutes before half-time. In the second both team continued to play fast football (for testmatch standard), but after an hour many substitutes came in and the quality decreased. In the end both teams could live with the draw.

Schaaf gave today the non-starting 11 players a chance and rested all starters (except Prödl) from the Trabzonspor match. Our substitutes proved once more that they are no option. They got spanked by 2nd Bundesliga side Duisburg.

I´d really like on of the youngsters to step up and show some brilliant performances in Götze-style. However I do not believe either Thy nor Trinks etc. are currently on the same level as Götze. Hopefully their development will have a boost at some point.

It is not easy for young players to come in when a team is not working. Remember Bargfrede last season, he could shine and was carried by euphorie. This year he must fight.

I´ll have to agree with you on this one. I guess what I desire is mostly wishful thinking and hoping that somebody can fill in the creative gap.
I thought Hunt had a good game against Besiktas though. Maybe I pissed him off at a club around Christmas time when I told him that he has been our weakest player in a while now. Unfortunately I got my shirt ripped apart afterwards from his friends.

I think that if he does turn out to have a great ruckrunde, we should thank you for your efforts :)

Even the first team sucks. We lost 3-1 against a Turkish village team (Eskisehirsomething). No offense to them, I don't care, if the Turkish referees benefit the home team in these tests and all the other excuses, the loss is deserved. And it is important how Werder plays and that is pathetic. Simple pathetic.

KA, start planning for BL 2 and Monday matches.

What a disappointment! What a disgrace!
How does the executive board dare to hold on to Thomas Schaaf and Klaus Allofs. It is so freakin' obvious that at least one of them has to be sacked!
I know the team isn´t showing any spirit or motivation, but this has reasons.
Why isn´t the media critizising the hell out of our coach and manager, but instead chooses to blame the players permanentely?! (who are without a doubt to blame as well)

That is simple a slap in the face for all the fans who travelled to Turkey to support the team at the trainingscamp. Many people at Werder seem to take things as granted, but they are built on the sucess of the recent years. The players and officials should not be surprised, if times will change.

Thanks for keeping us informed on the progress, or shall I say regress? of our side. This is gonna be an ugly finish. This is it, if you don't feel low about the club right now you never will! About two years ago I posted something like Schaaf a chauffeur or a bus driver with a load of stars in the back seat...well KEEE-RASH!!! I will at least stay positive if we get some wins in a row (last season they had a good second half :p) Inevitably the wheels will be in motion for a new coach. With all the men and resources he had available to him, for many seasons, to come to this dubious ending! Now I really wish they had won that damn Europa Cup!

Being there and being more informed must be excrutiating for you Eisen and willy...you will run out of t-shirts before this is all done :D

    Weise .....for GM?

    From http://blogs.soccernet.com/onthemove/

09.49: Werder Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese has urged the side to invest if they are to get out of their current slump. "We could really use some quality new players," he said.

Ha, ha! Wait...that's not funny . I looked for the 09:49 entry and didn't find it though I believe you and it's been removed, or I f***ed up looking (keep in mind I've been drinking and watched "the machinist"). I'm really messed up. Well, it's almost midnight in WPG so it is surely morning in the fatherland. Maybe our cousins will fill our hearts with postive energy for todays game. I will open the thread...fill away bruderlein and let's get the second half rolling!!!!

    No more

Naldo is headed to Brazil for evaluation/treatment. If doctors in DE can't help him.....damn.

Yes, that doesn't look good for him. We need to hope to see him ever return on the pitch. :(

Naldo had a knee surgery in Brasil. He will be back in Bremen in February and will continue his rehab there. Naldo himself said: "I want to player for Werder again as quickly as possible. My doctors here in Brasil are very optimistic that everything will be fine now."

Hopefully he´ll be able to play again at the end of February maybe.

This is very strange. The German doctors (not only the Werder doc, but also Müller-Wohlfahrt and a well-known knee specialist) decided to do not operate and made diagnostics for months, and in Brazil he gets operated after 3 days.

Well, all the best on the way of recovery, Naldo.

Schaaf here to stay according to Allofs

    From ESPN:

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/870591/werder-bremen-to-stick-by-coach-thomas-schaaf?cc=5901

Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf has been backed to turn around the club's fortunes by director of sport Klaus Allofs after a 3-0 defeat to Cologne at the weekend raised doubts about his future.

Schaaf has been at the helm of the northern Germany side for 12 years, but never have they been in such a difficult situation. With just 22 points from 19 games, Bremen are just three points clear of the relegation zone while qualifying for Europe next season seems unlikely with an 11-point deficit on fifth-placed Mainz.

The team was summoned for a crisis meeting on Monday. According to Allofs, it is they who are under pressure and not Schaaf.

"Sometimes bad coaches have good results, but here it is the other way around,'' he said. "There is no ultimatum for the coach. He has our total backing. We are absolutely convinced in him.

"The problem is not the coach, it is the team. They have got to understand that they need to fight. We are not mature enough to play good football anyway now.''

Not only is Allofs convinced with Schaaf's work, he also feels it would not make any difference firing him and hiring somebody else, even if it could give them a short-term boost. He said: "We are not going to sack a coach to maybe get one or two weeks of a psychological difference. Other clubs have made this mistake, but we won't.''

Schaaf has remained silent since the weekend's defeat, but he has raised his voice regularly in training.

"I can feel that he is totally motivated,'' added Allofs.

    OZ has spoken!

Well, maybe you're the problem Klaus :p because you are supposed to be the problem fixer. You got us into this mess...

Let's see how threatening the players goes to producing wins. Lines are being drawn...we're at that ugly part I was talking about.

I think we need to have a team crisis meeting right f*****g now! I think we need to open a poll and vote on who we think is gonna leave this week but you also have to give a reason, example: Pasanen will be fired when a brain scan reveals nothing.
