Wow. Does not look like a player who hasn't played since November (?) and trained with his teammates once (though a backheel for Skrtel inside the 18 shows he's unfamiliar with the team, arf). Great first touch, always looking to feed a teammate. The only real bad first touch was the very first one, and he went back to fight for it. I love this guy already.
It's a Dutch commercial. Let met translate: Dude: "A sporter. From.. uh.. Ajax. Yes, good club. Cruijff, Keizer, Abe Lenstra. What can I do for you?" Suarez: "I heard something about an anti-whistle regulation." Dude: "Yes this is our hearing aid with advanced anti-whistling regulation. That prevents you from hearing annoying whistling noises." Suarez: "Yes, VERY annoying. They whistle way too often to me." Dude: "Oh than this is not for you, lets go to our earplugs. Take a seat on our bench". Suarez: " Eh?! Suarez never sits on the bench". Dude: "Well, good luck with these, and if you ever hear a whistling noise just come back to us. Would like our card?" Suarez: "No, no. I have enough cards". He played almost every game without vacation for a period of 18 months before that so it was a well deserved rest. Suarez is the hardest working player I have ever seen. On par with Kuijt definitely. He's strong, fast, has endurance, very confident, very ferocious and he's a team player. His touch is often less than brilliant though, as his vision and tactical understanding of the game. But he plays in England now, so who needs vision and tactical understanding right?
This is what I asked above - and what brings a smile to my face. We really might have gotten extremely lucky with this buy (ok they were scouting him thoroughly along with alot of other big clubs).
Judas Torres would have just started walking in the opposite direction while pouting and trying to get the fans to feel sorry for him

No, because he still needs time to adapt to the league, team, etc. An away leg against Chelsea isn't the best time to bleed in a player. Also, Dalglish had a certain gameplan in mind. Hard to see where Suarez would have fit in today. Not saying he couldn't have done well but the performance and result speak for themselves.
Because, the game situation did not suit bringing him on. For Suarez to come in, we'd have had to do one of three things: * remove a CB * remove a player from our midfield diamond * remove Dirk Kuyt. Unfortunately, for Suarez, those were the three most effective things we had in the whole game. When he has had time to train and get fit, he will play, and we will start him from the beginning of the game.
but Wigan is at Anfield, no? I may be wrong, but thought it was. If at Anfield, I'm sure he'll net a hattrick for the Kop.
Either way though, Wigan and West Ham up next and Suarez has some of the weaker defensive units in the league to try and exploit. Could be a good two games for his confidence.
There's also a lot to be said about doing this one without him or Carroll. Show Chelski and Judas what's for with the players who care.
Well the formation did it's job in containing the very predictable and rigid Chelsea formation. However, I approach games with the intent of scoring goals instead of just preventing them. So I still do not agree with Kuijt as a long striker and Suarez on the bench. But that must be my Dutch point of view.
I didn't think the idea was "not to concede goals" as such but to make the most of the players available. Also, Suarez still is short of match fitness and, make no mistake, the game is physically more demanding here than in the Netherlands.
i'm sure that if we were still 0-0 at 70', the plan was to bring on suarez for maxi or meireles... but, to protect the cagey one-goal lead, we brought on poulsen and aurelio instead... i'd wager he'll get his first start against wigan at the weekend... can't wait!
As the Mod said, we had Suarez on the bench to come on to win us the match if needed, but as we were winning and in control he stayed on the bench. Suarez will get his time to shine.
