Yeah, and well said. That's a key difference between between Sturridge and the likes of Carroll/Borini. Even when he has somewhat of an off game, he's still fast enough and smart enough on and off the ball to mess with opponents, pull defenders along with him, and therefore create more openings for Suarez and the other midfielders. Even when he isn't looking like a goal threat he's still very useful.
One thing I have noticed since he arrived is that he and Suarez are both "greedy" sometimes going for shots that are very unlikely to go in rather than passing. I think it's a quality you want from strikers however - but I look forward to them growing together so that they become more effective and devastating.
Agreed. For a striker I'll take greed as the first instinct every day. Better than the times when our guys would be staring a clear chance in the face and then try another pass...
After rewatching the Spurs match, it looks like Sturridge could have had 1 or 2 if guys would have found his runs into the box. Suarez ignored one, and Downing didn't see another.
And his touch let him down on that beautiful ball from Coutinho about five minutes in. Should have been in with the keeper at his mercy. Just one of those days.
As far as I'm concerned the team should get the ball to Coutinho, he'll put it on Suarez's or Sturridge's foot and they can be as greedy as the wan't as long as they put it in the back of the net. I don't know if it was mentioned in another post but I seem to remember Sturridge saying in an interview that he wanted to help Suarez get the golden boot or what ever it's called in the EPL.
and that's why I don't mind his "low" pass completion stat that someone had posted. his vision to even make such passes is incredible.
I remember saying how great a player we'd be getting if we got the Bolton Sturridge. Well, we got the Bolton Sturridge.
ten starts, eight goals, three assists for us this season. twelve starts, ten goals, four assists for the whole season. in comparison, welbeck has 22 starts, two goals, five assists. but, he starts for england.
Hopefully he retires from international football (even if it is Hodgson's beautiful Dortmund-esque "4-4-2").
Actually, high ankle sprains can take a long time to heal. It usually take minimum of 6 weeks too about 3 months and sometimes up to 6 months. I'm hoping with first class carge he should be good for the start of the season.
