Another week started already.... Cal State Bakersfield (1-1-3) gets off the schneid with a 2-1 win over Cal State Fullerton (1-5-0). Freshman Christian Duarte, who has been called up to the U20 NT, scored the game-winner. Gyasi Zardes did not play, the second straight game he missed. (I assume he's hurt but don't know if it's serious. Anyone with any insight there?) Anyone else remember when Fullerton used to be good?
UAB (3-2-1) 2, Clemson (1-3-2) 0... in Clemson. Big (6-5) Serbian defender Mladen Lemez scored his second of the season for the Blazers. Clemson's return to relevance is taking longer than expected. They haven't win since beating SC Upstate in their opener and have 3 goals in 6 games. Of the 3, one is an OG and one a PK.
I think you are on to something here. The next several games will be telling for the Tigers as they play at Duke, at rival South Carolina, red hot NC State , and at UVA. Somebody could be in trouble if they come through those games with a record of 1-7-2. I'm just saying.
Louisville wins 3-2 vs Wake Forest tonight in 2OT. This was a game of 2 halfs. Louisville ran the 1st half and was up 2-0 and missed empty netter. Wake owned the second and tied it up. OT was equal until Louisville scored winner.
Big upset: James Madison 1, North Carolina 0. Redshirt Sr. Christian McLaughlin converted a PK for the only goal.
California 5, Houston Baptist 0. (Presumably HBU's players' heads were spinning from all the debauchery they witnessed in Berkeley and San Francisco!) Seth Casiple with a goal and an assist, Cousin Tony with the game-winner and JuCo transfer Luis Fuentes added his first. Bears get their first shoutout of the season and improve to 3-2-0.
Here is video of the game winning goal by Christian McLaughlin from JMU against UNC. Also includes an interview: James Madison shock UNC UNC will have to bounce back against a strong Wake Forest team on Friday.
Donny Smith scores in 2nd OT and Charlotte beats South Carolina at home. Of note, all 4 of Charlotte's home games have gone to double OT this season. Also, Charlotte will play away from home for the next month.
I really liked Smith in the College Cup last year. I think he has a good shot at an MLS roster next year. Kid has a special spark that every team can use.
High Point is quietly 5-0-0 with a 2-0 win over UNC Greensboro tonight. Mamadee Nyepon, a So. from Greensboro, scored his 5th of the year tonight.
I agree Sandon. I was very impressed with him in the College Cup as well. Of the players I was unfamiliar with, he made the biggest impression on me.
Stanford 2-1 over San Jose State in OT. Cardinal are 3-2 with both losses on their trip to Charleston.
Brown scores 40 seconds into OT to beat B.U. 1-0 and improve to 4-1. B.U., which always seems to recruit well but then not perform on the field, is 1-4-2.
Apparently UConn wasn't pleased with their draw with BU and they took it out on Harvard this afternoon 6-0.
Maryland 3 NCS 2. I only saw about first 15 minutes of the game but I was very impressed with NCS. The guy Martinez for State is the real deal as Maryland defense had fits containing him. Tman
This Tim Hopkinson kid is off to a great start. He scored both goals for ODU tonight and now has 7 goals and 4 assists in 5 games.
