4,442 in Fort Lauderdale for the Strikers-Stars draw. 10K plus fans for the first two games combined, probably better than the total attendance for last season with MFC. Rebrand=win.
Miami FC 2010 attendance - first two home games at Lockhart Apr. 10 vs. Rochester: 1,235 Apr. 17 vs. Vancouver: 1,089
3,161 in Atlanta for week 2. Not bad. They need to win to keep interest up I think though(just not next week when I'll be in ATL supporting the Strikers ) Only 1219 in Carolina for their win vs. Montréal. Apparently there was some kind of crazy tornado storm earlier in the day that probably kept the crowd low.
I'm surprised we even had 1200 considering the tornadoes that touched down so close to the area. I usually hate it when I see people pointing to weather as the reason for attendance concerns but that's probably the worst weather conditions that I've ever seen at WakeMed in back-to-back weekends. http://www.wral.com/news/video/9452204/#/vid9452204 There's a video for people like Smoke & Mirrors who think it was just a little "afternoon rain" keeping fans away. And some pictures... http://www.wral.com/weather/image_gallery/9454493/ http://www.wral.com/weather/image_gallery/9452442/
Easy aimorris, I wasn't intimating "a little rain" kept the fans away. As a fan of an NASL team, I want every team to be successful at the gate. That is the surest way for this league to find some measure of stability. My apologies for rambling about the attendance over in your match thread, but if you go back and look, I did make sure I congratulated you guys on a solid win first. What I am mostly, is surprised by the numbers. I don't live anywhere near your area, so I don't know what the weather is like. But I do know if there was a thunderstorm in our area at or near gametime, I'd probably be going to the game alone as my wife and the kids would certainly not come out to get rained on. LOL Critics of D2 soccer in general love to be dismissive of weather as a reason for low attendance. I'm not one of those people. So here's to hoping you see a much bigger crowd of your fellow Railhawks fans for your next home game against Edmonton, and then your largest crowd to date in May for the Strikers!
I'm glad you're concerned. And to address those concerns, the biggest tornado storms since the 80s in NC probably had a little something to do with the low turnout. If you want to talk about how Carolina's struggling attendance-wise, feel free to do it in here. I just don't think our game threads are the best place for it because we actually are at the games. I was at this game tonight and drove an hour to get there after the storms were gone.
Tornados reported in 19 North Carolina counties today. At least 6 are confirmed dead. http://www.newsobserver.com/2011/04/16/1134618/tornado-touches-down-in-southwest.html
Not really sure what else you want me to do at this point aimorris. I apologized, and moved my comments here to this thread. One last time, congrats on the win, hope you get some bigger crowds. Don't really think this is necessary or appropriate for the Big Soccer forum CShine. We all take our pro soccer seriously, but fatalities from natural disasters are on a whole other level. Maybe move over to CNN or Fox News with this kind of post.
Just wanted to explain my frustrations. It's all good. I, too, hope we get bigger crowds. Let's just say I'm not concerned with attendance just yet. And I doubt the next two Wednesday games will break any attendance records either.
Well I'm pretty worried about FCTB's game on Sunday (later today). Just putting it out there. Really hope the first game wasn't a case of a bunch of St. Pete curiosity seekers who won't be back. If we top 3k I'll be happy, but I'm prepared for much worse. If it is something gross like 1500, please to be moving the team back to Tampa asap.
Still, there was apparently a decent (if unexciting) turnout for the first ten minutes of the opener before the rain drove all but a couple hundred of us away. Wonder what sort of storm will hit Wednesday. Wish we would've done better than 1219 even with the rather disastrous weather, but given how many people in Raleigh were without power and in at least some cases unable to leave the neighborhood, I'm not sure how bad a turnout it really was for the circumstances. The other thing that concerns me is that the next two home RailHawks games are on Wednesdays, and the crowds at those always suck. Here's hoping things pick up later in the season!
Not terrible for a Sunday game. The roof on that place really helps with the atmosphere, it sounded lively on the webcast.
I have to say that given there was a Rays game earlier in the afternoon, a once in a lifetime Iron Maiden concert in Tampa that kept more than a few Mobsters from attending the game and that this was a Sunday afternoon game the week following our home opener I am happy with basically 3k (I don't care, I'm saying 3k. Close enough ) I was prepared for MUCH worse. Now the front office has two weeks to push ticket sales for the next home game which is on a Saturday and against a more recognizable opponent in Atlanta (no offense, Puerto Rico). The game tonight was very exciting and could have as easily gone the other way plus the weather was fantastic, again. So I wouldn't be surprised by another solid 3500-4k turnout.
The roof is fantastic from a supporters viewpoint, wait til you guys here the atmosphere in person. I believe the first trip for the Strikers to Tampa is on July 4th? Crossing fingers for a sellout for that one. Should be ridiculous.

Montréal is sure to take the top attendance honors, but it felt good for South Florida to be on top of that category, even for a few short weeks
