Seeing Maryland for the first time, their midfield movement and passing is scary good..........this IU fan is jealous..........
Man.........Sanchez for Clemson had a perfectly played through ball into the box and was just stuffed by Cardona on the shot.....seemed like he aimed the shot right at Cardona who never flinched......
VCU beats Charlotte 1-0 SLU vs VCU Sunday at 4 eastern on CBS Sports Network. Rematch of a game earlier in the season where SLU scored with 8 seconds left in regulation to force overtime where they went on to win.
Maryland escapes with an OT win. Not sure who scored. EDIT: they're calling it an OG. That's a tough way for Clemson to go out. However, Clemson finished the season really strong and if they can build on this next season, they should be a contender.
Unfortunate own goal by Clemson defender on a corner kick and Maryland wins 2-1 in the second OT. They go on to play UNC Sunday at noon for the ACC title.................ACC Armageddon part deux.........
The look of relief on Sasho's face was telling. Usually he is pretty passionate when the Terps get a big win but tonight, he just looked liked he'd dodged a bullet.
New Mexico up 2-0 on Denver at the half in the other MPSF semi. Note: I like Denver and I think they could be a great fit for the Big West.
In the other CAA final, Hofstra and Drexel played to a 1-1 draw and Hofstra advanced on PKs to face Northeastern. Hofstra is 11-5-4. Drexel is 12-3-3 and entered the day with an RPI of 29 so they should get an at-large bid.
Championship matches coming up Maryland- Unc Vcu- St. Louis Loyola - Niagra AU-Lafayette Umbc- Unh Georgetown - NDame
San Diego is 45 minutes away from an automatic bid and the West Coast Conference championship. They lead St. Mary's 1-0 at HT on a Dan Delgado goal. A win and they clinch. A tie or loss and Sunday's game with 2nd place Santa Clara is for the WCC and the auto bid.
As a Carolina fan, I expect Maryland to win on Sunday. Somoano played very few subs tonight, and I think that Maryland will just keep plugging away with subs until they get a goal. However, just playing Maryland will help UNC's SOS, which was the weakest part of UNC's RPI.
I think that clinches the Ivy League championship and its automatic bid for Cornell. After these games, Dartmouth (9-7-0 overall) finishes 5-7 in the Ivy and Brown (12-2-3) is 4-1-2 in the Ivy. Cornell (14-1), with a game to play, is 5-1 in the Ivy. They are already ahead of Brown and even if they lose their final game (which is against 4-7-4 Columbia), they have the tie-breaker with Dartmouth since they beat them in the regular season. Brown's RPI is 24 so they should get an at-large bid but Dartmouth's is 74 before this result so they are likely on the outside looking in.
In the other CUSA semi, Tulsa beats UAB 1-0 on a goal by Jon Wright. UAB is 10-7-2 with an RPI of 27. Tulsa is 12-5-1 with an RPI of 18.
New Mexico wins 3-0 and advances to the Mountain West/MPSF finals vs Air Force. San Diego wins 2-0 to win the WCC crown and auto bid. Congrats to the USD Toreros.
SIUE downs Central Arkansas to reach the finals of the Missouri Valley... SIUE vs Creighton on Sunday. Does this win get the Cougars in regardless, or do you think they need to get a result in the final? Big deal for this program. Trying to secure first DI tournament birth in almost 30 years. 1979 National Champs
for reaching the finals I think SIUE done enough. But when you've been out of the national picture for over a quarter-century you don't have any recent tradition to fall back on. Best to win the auto bid to be sure.
