Well, well, well! UC Davis holds on for a 2-1 win over Sac State. UC Davis earns the #1 seed in the Big West north. Now it comes down to this for the #2 seed: If UCSB wins, Cal Poly is out. If Cal Poly wins or ties, Sac State is out.
Charlotte - 2 George Washington - 1 Worst officiated game I've seen. The center became the main attraction. With the win, Charlotte is the A-10 Regular Season Champions!
this makes penn st. and northwestern co-champs of the big ten. penn state gets the first round bye in the b1g tournament.
FINAL: Zips 1-0 WMU Caldwell 86th minute tap in from a Koroma strike. Shots 22 -2 per Akron twitter feed
Michigan back to .500. All they need is a win or a shootout loss in their next game, and they're likely to get a bid. Oddly, though, a shootout win doesn't get them there. Must've been interesting to see the Alashe brothers going against one another head to head.
Notre Dame 4, Syracuse 2 With Bobby Clark's mad line-up strategy, all 4 Irish goals and all 3 assists came from substitutes. Ryan Finley had a goal and an assist, while freshman Patrick Hodan had two goals and an assist.
Cornell 2, Dartmouth 1 The Big Red won in spite of Daniel Haber's first truly bad statline of the year. 10 shots, 6 on goal, no points.
FIU 1, Tulsa 2 A goal apiece for the Mata brothers. Back to the drawing board for Kenny Arena, who went 8-1-1 outside of CUSA but 0-7-1 in it. Sure helps everybody else's RPI, though.
Furman 1, Wofford 2 in SoCon quarters Yet another under-achieving season for Furman is in the books. Puzzling how they continue to get some high profile recruits.
Poly 0, UCSB 0 in 2nd half, being streamed here http://www.bigwest.org/story.asp?story_id=16288 Good atmosphere + good soccer = fun to watch. Solo PBP guy going a little nuts, though. "When I say Mac Pridham is valuable, I don't think you understand. He's valuable like GOLD for this team."
Poly 1, UCSB 0 VERY impressive performance by Cal Poly, although the goal was a bit cheap, coming after UCSB's keeper came out for a contested ball and fumbled it. UC Irvine 1, Northridge 0, near the end Could be a big loss for Northridge, who still aren't assured of a post-season berth. San Diego St 0, Stanford 4 Two days after a disappointing loss at UCLA, Jeremy Gunn's team bounced back strong. Sign of a good coach.
Apparently, Cal State Northridge decided to motivate themselves for the Big West Tournament by throwing away their chance for an at-large bid and losing to a dreadful UC Irvine team at home, on Senior Night, 1-0. The Matadors diddled around with no semblance of effort until the Anteaters scored in the 67th minute. They drop to 13-6-0 on the season. UC Irvine ends their 5-14-1 season on a high note with a win over the top team in the Big West. Northridge will host _ in a Big West Tournament semifinal on Wednesday.
Is the Big West really going to be a one-bid league? Might happen if Cal Poly or Cal State Fullerton wins the tournament.
Fullerton won 2-1. They take the #2 seed in the south despite being under .500 in conference (4-5-1) and under .500 overall (8-11-1)
That's the way the ball bounces. They finished second in their division. Everyone agreed to the rules going in so Sac State and Riverside should not complain. Fullerton is now in the same boat as Michigan. Auto-bid or bust.
