its very encouraging to see that MLS is actually getting more respect amongst players globally. i think in the next few years MLS could possibly turn a corner, and become a very desirable destination for a certain tier, (good but not top tier in their prime) of players.

yeah, i read that in the article yesterday, but there as well it stated the improved opinion players have of MLS. foreign coaches have a minimal impact on MLS. foreign players of decent quality have a far higher potential impact. i'll take the players respecting the league over the coaches every day of the week.
But a kid from MLS heading to Europe most likely have to deal with such a coach or coaches which impacts MLS greatly in the long run.
i see the benefit in american talent heading to europe, but there is greater benefit in talent coming from europe to MLS, at least in the short to mid term. we are steadily improving the quality of the american players we are producing. if at the same time, we can steadily increase the quality of the foreign players we attract, well that's a recipe for success in every way that i can see. tv ratings are most likely the next big hurdle for MLS. ironically, the more international respect MLS gets, the more domestic respect it will get, hopefully leading to improved ratings as more people check it out, both casual fans, and fans living here in the US who are fans of foreign leagues but not of MLS. that respect along with incrementally improving quality is a good path to be on.

Boyd was influenced by a former manager at Nottingham Forrest to consider Portland. It helps that was Spencer's bro-in-law.
Not since that Center Line Soccer article from this morning. The Planning Commission meeting is scheduled to start today at 6:30pm PST and the soccer stadium issue may not be the first issue discussed (though I suppose it could be bumped up), so the final decision to whether or not the appeal is denied will likely only be made late in the evening. I'll try my best. -G

Honolulu Star-Advertiser had an article on the Rapids today that's behind a paywall, but it included this mistake: Despite the caption that photo is draftee Kohei Yamada, not Kosuke Kimura. (There's only two Japanese players under contract in all of MLS and they managed to confuse them. )
Very sloppy considering they are much more aware of cultural diversity from the Pacific Rim in Hawaii.
