I saw him take on defenders quite a few times during the first half and win a bunch of those 1v1 battles. It was surprising since Guardado usually shies away from 1v1 duels. The only problem was that once he got past his man, the last pass was either too heavy or was intercepted by the Jamaicans. The real issue is how the FMF will handle the Maza incident. Ricardo Peleaz and Miguel Herrera have already echoed Maza's "excuse", which is frankly bullshit. The FMF has punished a lot of players for lack of discipline and while this incident doesn't really compare to Quitogate, it certainly needs to be addressed. This is the captain for f*cks sake. Fine him and don't call him up for the next game.
Then we should probably play our home games at high noon! We don`t need it to qualify but its a good advantage.
It all comes down to Chepo, he was overconfident from the start. I ask.. If the Denmark game was a practice, a game to learn, what did he do differently? it obviously didn't work in Phoenix. In fact, the only that worked in phoenix was Fabian coming in for the striker and taking out the 442. Chepo wants the 442 system to work, And it will, but not against these types of teams. it works well against teams that fight for possession or just horrible teams that can't defend. From what i hear he wasn't happy with gio on the right, that's why he took him out. But what can Gio do, send crosses? that's not his style. He was later moved towards the middle but it was too crowded with peralta trying to make something work. It was a mess Aquino did better because that what he does best. run with the ball down the flank and pass the ball. hopefully he doesn't get the venado 2.0 disease. As for guardado moving to DM, another mess. He needs to see there is a left white line next to him to feel confident. He can't create plays in the middle Nor defend. Almost like salcido.. When he finally realized nothing was working he sent fabian to play behind.. really behind. He looked like a defender during free kicks and didn't have a real shot on goal. Chepo.. it didn't work against the US. it didn't work against Denmark.. and it wont work on tall concacaf teams. By the looks of it, we are the smallest team this time around. Hopefully Honduras can come out Fighting like they did against the US.. I think we can dominate.
Guardado and the rest of the euros played on saturday and sunday, took a long flight, barely practiced and thus it's not surprising they didn't shine. I said it prior to the game. It's the problem of the hex in CONCACAF and having to have qualifiers on FIFA friendly dates where the clubs only release the players 3 days before and not 5. You have the altitude also. Still the problem is that it was MFL players (2 of which Azteca is their club home field) who sucked the most.
The team stunk it up but the majority of the squad plays in altitude, with the rest visiting high altitude regions for away games, so its not an issue for us as for visiting teams. And only 4 flying across the pond, although Gio is the most important.
You keep misreading my posts. I said the altitude and the low time acclimating would have explained why some euros didn't play well but that the problem was that the MFL players sucked the most.
Ole! Ole! OLE! Get rid of the damn 4-4-2, Salcido, and AGUAlar at rb. We should see improved results from these changes.
Maza should not be our captain. We went from Marquez to Maza. Salcido will probably be our captain. Estamos jodidos.
Tom Marshall @mexicoworldcup Interesting stats from Wed's Mexico game via @record_mexico: El Tri's pass percentage was 63.3%, had only 3 shots on goal. Tom Marshall @mexicoworldcup Via @record_mexico: Mexico connected to just 3 of 48 crosses into the box against Jamaica. Tom Marshall @mexicoworldcup Via @record_mexico: Paul Aguilar connected with just 38% of passes, Maza with 47.5% and Moreno with 54%. Herrera highest rate with 89%.
he and Guardado would be my picks for captain and eventually later on i think Chicharo might be captain. he's shown some signs of leadership in games.
did you see the drop ball against Jamaica when peralta had the headbutt??? the whole team was sleep walking back to goal and walking back. cheech was screaming like crazy for the team to get ready to take the drop ball right out side the Jamaica box. he was screaming and waving the team to come back and get ready. eventually the jamacian goalie did the fair play thing and kicked it back to us so the drop ball never happened but when i saw that i said that is a player who's head is in the game and a leader. -edit- i should mention maza was one of the ones walking back with his head down not paying attention...
