What is this group Walker End Houston that is being sponsored by the team? Where does it fit vis-a-vis the existing supporters groups? Sorry if this has been discussed elsehwere, but I did a search and couldn't seem to find it.
I was wondering the same thing. And who were the marketing wizards who came up with this one? Not only do I wonder why they need to do this when we already have established and recognizable SG names. But I also think it's about the lamest "Let's copy other clubs" name imaginable. Not being an SG guy I don't pretend to speak for them. But I'd be willing to take a substantial bet that every SG member who sees that is asking "WTF is this stupidity?!?!?"
If this is a way to let the folks who sit in the "Walker End" know that things are going to be a little rowdier on the South Side, I'm all for it. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of people like me and my crew that bought tickets on the south side to be close to the SGs as we were on the Northend at Robertson. Hungryjack and the Orange Helmets did, though he said yesterday they were still undetermined as to whether the helmets would be allowed in BBVA. I don't know if they'll let me bring the tambourine inside yet, either. So, I hope they're doing this as a way to designate the South Side as an area where one should assume the spectating will never be a passive activity. Like the river end in PHI. I know the SOB have a billion dues paying members who can fill the River End, but that's what we'll have one day. And when that day comes, life on the Walker End may be tough for a hand-sitter. It's been said before, but certain activities - massive endline tifo hoisted from the canopy, unfurling the telon, will take the involvement of all the sections. WE is Walker End (You heard it here first, folks.) OTOH, I could be wrong and it's La Doce 2.0.
Walker End Houston is not sponsored by the team. It is an association being formed by some of the existing supporter groups. The existing groups are not going away. Come out to the Orange Bar to hear about it. Or we'll post more about it here tomorrow.
I agree with el nordissimo, it could be a great way to let people know that if you're in that end of the stadium, you're part of something different. Kind of like how the bull pen is at Texans games... they're not a supporters group, but it's known that things get rowdy at that end of the field.
Any of you who are in the know about this new effort please spill all the beans. Not really possible for me to get down there to attend that meeting coming from Austin. Has nothing to do with my tickets last night for Roger Waters fantastical production of The Wall. Anyway ... I'm very interested in knowing more about this effort.
More will be said about Walker End Houston but for now you can go to website. Join, it is free and open to everyone, and then check out the "About" page. That'll get you started. http://walkerendhouston.com/
OK, so I would have lost the bet that the SG members were saying "WTF?" about "Walker End!" My seats are in the "Walker End" and I have been a South End guy at the Rob forever. No worries about having the SG's as neighbors and I will be happy to participate in various large scale activities that might extend beyond the SG sections. Does that make me a "Supporters Group" supporter?!? I apologize for throwing in my 2 cents, when I absolutely recognize that you guys are trying to organize something that is very positive. But I still think "Walker End" is cheezy and artificial. Walker Street is probably the one street in Downtown Houston with the least historically significant name. More importantly the dumb F#@k's from Seattle will say you copied "Brougham End," and/or the "River End" in Chester.
The name is kinda lame and sounds like we copied others. Why do we even need to have a name for the section anyway? Why not have a few matches and see how the section is. I'm not on board with this whole ISA either. btw the view expressed are my own not those of El Batallon.
Should be Walker End on the side Walker runs with the stadium (no supporter group). IMO: Combine the supporter groups and create the group Bayou City Supporters.
Canetti never went to Supporters first. He went to the public and offered cheap tickets which got bought out by regular people. This has caused some SGs to be separate. There are people in the 200-level and others in the 100-level, and these are people that have been to games since 2006/07. Some of the "new" people he speaks about are the people that mostly bought the tickets cause they were cheap.
so if things are off a few games we can blame Canetti? Blame Canetti Blame Canetti! That has a nice ring to it! maybe we can chant that opening day
I will admit that I'm one of those new people who bought the tickets because they were cheap but I have every intention of learning the songs and chants and participating in what the SG's are doing as much as possible because it's super badass. Hopefully if i can make the money work (currently a broke college student) i'll be able to formally join one of the groups. I say this because I have a feeling that there are many people who are in the same boat as I am. Just new faces to add to the party.
Walker Street is the street on the south side of the stadium. That is the end that the supporters are in. Not sure what you are talking about. The supporter groups are not going to combine. This Walker End Association is a way for different supporter groups to work together to support the Dynamo but also have their own groups. Also, the way that Walker End is set up new groups can form and then become part of the leadership of Walker End or people can take part individually. If you have an opinion about how things should work join Walker End and voice your opinion.
Front office controlled environment, union of the masses...500+ supporters with season tickets (which half of those peeps will be outta there once the shenanigans begin), sounds like my kinda party! Count El Batallon out! Real That "Walker end" is gonna be a real wild one when you even have to watch what you say! Kaaaaaman!
I brought this point up, and this is the thing that Señor McSwiggins just brought up. The whole "yellow card" system doesn't sit well with me. Some people are going to let out some curse words or jump on seats and get complaints from the "new" people, not you ElJefe 2010 I know you mean well and in no time you'll be partying it up, but from people that bought their tickets from scalpers or others that aren't going to want to stand. Once enough complaints are received to an at-large person or another rep of the "Walker End" there will eventually be an ejection. Especially, if any council member can just eject peeps. The FO has ejected people in the past, but as soon as somebody I drink with or joke around with me ejects me...well things aren't going to be as friendly around the bar or tailgate area.
I have one question regarding everything. The website looks nice. Have y'all been to it? (http://walkerendhouston.com/) The forums don't allow you to sign up yet unless you use Facebook. You can't use Twitter yet and if you don't have either, the captcha hasn't been activated. If y'all need help doing some simple code, I have a book or 10. Well back to whatever I was speaking of. That website looks nice and has many features. The domain name was probably fairly cheap, but the set-up must have taken some cash. I'm guessing around $50 maybe more if somebody was paid to do it. Then things can get pricey. My question is, who is footing the bill for it? Not only that, organizational costs are being put up whom? It may not be a lot, but I think it's a question that should be asked. It's supposed to be transparent, right? I also know that this is an "independent" thing, but why is the F.O. so supportive and even whoring out the info? I kinda, semi-respect you @cougarclaws and we both know we don't agree on everything, hell even most and we've butted heads a few times, but does this scream independent? http://www.houstondynamo.com/blog/post/2012/05/04/what-walker-end-houston
We don't get why call it a "independent supporters association" since this was an idea of the FO, and the President of the team presented the charter. Then the association is independent of whom or what? El Batallon is out of this, but that doesn't mean we are going to start a revolution on May 12th. We just believe that we don't need to sign a paper, or be part of a charter, to support our team how we've been doing since 2006.
it seems that EB is not involved in this. it also seems that that anytime there is a SG discussion, EB has a problem with it. is this an accurate assessment and if so why? is it part of EBs charter to be the ones that "everyone is out to get" or the "only ones keeping it real"? its a fair question to ask in light that it appears every other SG can get behind this, but you apparently can't. if it's not a chip on the shoulder, attention getter, then what is it?
I'm with you there because I'm one of those people that always sat close to the supporter groups to every Dynamo game I went to at the Rob. I'm doing the same here at The Compass since I'm pretty much directly behind the SG I LOVE that kind of atmosphere they create and I wouldn't trade it for anything else
