Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys yeah, I like Five Guys. have them here in Denver too.
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys I used to live near the original Five Guys and my ex-husband and his brother loved them. Me, I thought they were too greasy and overrated. One recently opened near my house that I haven't tried yet but my understanding is that FG's quality (such as it was) hasn't really survived the growth and expansion. But I dunno.
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys Their burgers are nothing special IMO and they're not cheap. They're expanding like nuts A good diner burger anywhere in Jersey beats Five Guys. Heck, I think Friendly's burgers are much better than Five Guys
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys This is the big winner right here. Plus, try getting gravy fries at 5 Guys
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys Looks like consensus is a hard thing to build... At least we all know iranian burgers trump every other burger in the world, right?
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys I bet if you guys tried the Kirk's steakburgers you'd agree that they are awesome. Plus, you can get beer too.
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys Anything that calls itself a steakburger already gets bonus points. But does it come with a Happy Meal?
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys The McRib is an abomination. (But still abom-ilicious, judging from the one that I bought at the McDonalds at the airport yesterday.)
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys When I worked at McDonald's in 1988-89 when I was in high school, they told us that the frying fat included beef fat in it. Since then, I think they've gone to 100% vegetable fat. And the fries don't taste as good anymore. Such is life.
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys No happy meals, as far as I could see. But the burgers are huge, and they do sell beer as I said, and they have a TV screen that is usually tuned to ESPN. So, you can get a pretty good idea of which demographic group they are going after.
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys One reason I'm happy to have moved back west is that burger places don't look at you like a weirdo for ordering your burger with jalapeños on it.
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys They have one here. It's good but not great, and it isn't what I'd call fast food, either. These mom/pop in/out Starburgers places aren't international chains. They're in a different category altogether from McD's and BK and you go there for an entirely different reason. Iran invented burgers
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys Lambburgers, maybe. Which are damn good, although not easy to find.
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys Moderation is king. There's nothing wrong with taking kids to McD once every 6 months, and them getting toys, apart from the fact that BK or Subway taste better.
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys I like to order my burgers with peperoncinis on them. But jalapenos work, too.
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys I love jalapeños in pizza (sausage), but I've never had them in a burger... I think I'll give that a try.
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys I think I'd try that with a burger. But what you people do to "pizza" is an abomination. Here's what pizza should look like. Fresh mozz and sauce, charred crust - not too thick. You can have several slices and not feel overstuffed: http://www.bluejean.fr/en/food/images/pizza-margherita.jpg Here's what it SHOULD NOT look like. I give you the apple oatmeal pizza from Cali: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7e/Apple_oatmeal_pizza.jpg And you can feed this crap to the farm animals: http://lh5.ggpht.com/_KKs9QmORLdM/RpkSHuCtsQI/AAAAAAAAABw/ISxVhbBg7v4/Picture-237.jpg
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys That is an awfully odd selection of examples. I love California style pizza, but I have never eaten any apple/oatmeal blends. And while I love a good Margherita, there are thousands of terrible versions of it. I guess I will never understand pizza-region exceptionalism. On the topic of McDonalds: A refutation of the idea that McDonalds burgers are chemical creations because they don't mold.
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys I will freely admit that the Tex-Mex in the northeast largely sucks compared to what you get in the southwest. So I don't find it a stretch to call Wolfgang Puck's pretty pizza and that deep dish abortion pizza unpalatable. It could be worse. Northern New England has awful pizza and Mexican
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys I side with the Pizza man on this. More specifically, this is what I call a Pizza
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys As the organizer of a day-long NYC 5-borough pizza crawl a few years ago, I've got nothing against the simple New York (or New Haven) slice done to perfection. But a great deep dish pie (which you pretty much can only get in Chicago - those Pizzeria Uno chain places are crap) is a whole different experience. It's like comparing a penne alla arrabiata to a robust lasagna bolognese. They're both delicious for what they are.
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys To each his own. That picture looked baby-in-a-blender poured into a pie tin. Which I think is not the point of good pizza
Re: San Francisco Law Curbs McDonalds Happy Meal Toys I hear McDonalds is working on a new McCamel sandwich. The patty will be shaped like a hump.
