When I get home from work tonight I'll switch you and Gringo on my list. And as far as your Sphinx reaction... oh, darn, a statue ONLY as big as a Greyhound bus

I feel a little silly selecting another artist of the New Hudson School's work, but nonetheless, I select Thomas Cole's "The Voyage of Life" Childhood Youth Manhood
The last three picks have all been very interesting. Never heard of any of them. Thanks to everyone for the continuing education!
How did Iceblink get skipped for the 4th round? I'll give him the rest of the evening and then I'll post my 4th pick tomorrow morning.
Sorry. Just saw this. I don't know. I like Magritte's popular stuff -- guy with derby, guy with apple in front of his face, this is not a pipe/apple, etc. -- but I just really love the calm and surreal, yet not surreal aspect of the painting. The dark angel who's turned his back on the lion ... There's just something about it that strikes me. === FWIW, looking back, GringoTex PM'd me when he made his draft selection, instead of PM'ing Iceblink, who I think is next in line. Instead of PM'ing Iceblink, I PM'd the person after me, Matt. I think we just forgot about him ... Whoops. == Last thing ... I'm hoping the draft continues to move slow as hell, since I won't be back in the office (and online) again until Tuesday afternoon. If my pick comes up before Tuesday, just go ahead and pick without me and I'll catch up when I get back.
I'm skipped? I didn't know I was up. Sorry about that everybody. Don't wait for me. Go ahead, and I'll pick some stuff.... am I just picking the 4th? In truth, there's a painting that I've been looking for in a book. I remembered seeing it, and I was trying not to pick a different painting by this artist... but I can't find the book, and I can't find it online. I just really wanted it... but nobody's going to pick it. I'll get caught up shortly. Sorry for the delay!
sorry i am late. I should just tell everybody to skip me for those rounds. for round 2: I choose a sculpture piece of Acropolis Parthenon's E pediment: Three goddesses: Hestia, Dione, Aphrodite. I have considered other sculpture work which is more emotional intense, but i finally decided on this one which shows wonderful craftsmanship.
for round 3: I just can't resist picking the most famous Chinese painting, although it's nothing short of a masterpiece too. 清明上河圖 - 張擇端 QingMing Shang He Tu by Zhang ZeDuan overview : link to d/l the full picture: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:QingmingshangHetu_Full.jpg partial: There's problem with different version of this painting. The original is partially destroyed (shown above in partial). The best copy made by Qing court artists is in Taiwan now (shown above in overview).
