@NASLOttowa on twitter claims Monday there will be some news about Virginia. https://twitter.com/NASLOttawa/status/264445452206866432
The 'news' would be their little get together that was post poned by the hurricane. Dog and pony show announcing the name the team deal, high level soccer, we love the NASL......you get the picture.
I know it was ironically chosen, but I'm surprised no minor league baseball team has taken Virginia Wolves. Funny and tacky to those who think about it, normal name to those who don't. I like it.
Took me a couple seconds to realize what was funny about this. I'm not that kind of nerd, but I highly appreciate the humor in this suggestion. X-D
Anyone going to the NASL Virginia event tonight? Also, the website is up an running now - it's no longer just the invitation to the event. No new info on the site that hasn't already been posted on BS.
Go with Virginia Dreadnoughts the shield could have Batterys added to it they Could go with Fox Hounds to keep with the hound theme Virginia Heart might Work if they wanted to go with the Virginia is for Lovers Angle. if you want to Europose then you can go Virginia Dreadnought FC
Took me more than a few. Had to google it and there was a story about wolves possibly in Virginia and W. Virginia, titled "who's afraid of Virginia wolves?" ahhhhhh.
Or just "Foxes", either as a direct name like Virginia Foxes or some kinda of Euro SC Virginia with the crest featuring a Fox.
Looks like it will be a decent, but still not ideal, layout for soccer. At least there will be permanent seats on 3 sides of the field. And in theory with artificial turf there should be no issue in at least having field level seats on the outfield sideline.
It's official. Virginia will be getting an NASL Team in 2014. They'll be playing in a mixed use Baseball/Soccer Stadium, and the contest for naming the team is taking place. I will admit, I was surprised when I went to vote for the team name. I had been counting on 2 to 3 generic FO approved names with a write in option, but right now it is completely up to the fans. Obviously this could go really well or really bad. I feel like the best name would be Virginia Commonwealth United, but that's VCU, so it wouldn't work. I think I just went ahead and voted for Virginia Commonwealth SC. This will be neat to see though. Especially if there's enough local interest to really give it a good, inspired name. Looks like they've even settled on a color scheme of grey and red possibly, but we'll see. Anyway, good to see the game growing, and I hope Virginia succeeds. Maybe they can have a 'Commonwealth Cup' one day for all the the Virginia teams?
Yeah, because the Winnipeg and Indianapolis threads above and below this one are just so relevant to this topic
Well Virginia NASL is the official name (for now) of the team, so I guess a Virginia thread > DC area thread, I guess it will give some more thread volume for when the Sub-Forum is created, it won't look so empty Right? https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/nasl-to-the-dc-area.1948174/ BTW make sure to check out and vote on the CS forums to get a Virginia expansion sub-forum https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/virginia-to-nasl-expansion-forum.1977575/#post-26726821
This is the best suggestion I've seen. It's sort of Europosing, but not really. There's already Rangers teams in other major leagues here - the Texas Rangers and New York Rangers. There's been a lot of North American soccer teams named Rangers as well - Pawtucket Rangers, who played in the original ASL; Kearny Rangers, three of the US players in the first ever USMNT game played for Kearny; New Jersey Rangers and Abbotsford Rangers of the PDL; plus a host of teams called Rangers from 1880-1920, when the US soccer scene was dominated by Scottish players.
