That's very interesting, considering that the Buffalo Bills just negotiated an extension of their 'home game in Toronto' contract through 2017. They're planning to do two games per season there starting in 2013/2014. The deal isn't finalized yet as far as I know, but the two sides have an agreement in principal, and the official signing is supposed to be a formality. Rogers is also hosting the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2015 Pan-Am games. Methinks they might be holding off on that baseball config for a while.
NASL Virginia will start playing in Spring 2014, their Director of Soccer is former DC United GK Mark Simpson and will have a contest to name the team [Link]
From the website: Emphasis mine. Maybe these baseball guys know what they're doing. The team name contest runs until December 1st.
Maybe. Maybe they're about to get a lesson in what happens when you try to come in on existing youth soccer clubs and do anything. But their intentions are good. It's exactly like suburban DC except it has the highest median household income in the country. Right next door in Fairfax County is the second-highest. Lots of people with money right around there.
Just playing around on Google maps... Ashburn is about 45 minutes west of DC. That's similar to the distance between Dallas and FC Dallas Stadium... Maybe this has already been covered ad nauseum here, so now that I think about it, I'll just go back through the thread... Monroe's New Boys? President Monroe FC? Club Monroe? OK I'm done.
I know I will get killed for this suggestion, but the name the team contest rules state they are looking for a potential link to the area with the name, right? Now that you've all nodded yes... The team could be called Louden County Rangers in reference to a calvary unit of Germans & Quakers (yes Quakers) who fought in the Civil War. They were called the Louden Rangers. This name is not intended to be a Europosing name and yet - it is. There, I said it. Now, go and have fun with it.
Yes, enough of the generic FC naming! I think they should use "Virginia" instead of "Loudoun County", can't think of much in the way of names though, maybe the Virginia Venom with a snake logo!
Just for shits and gigs, I submitted the name Millionarios. This is what happens when you're on 36 hours without power.
I lived in this area for over 20 years. Should not limit to Loudon county. There's a already a club in Washington DC in MLS, so better differentiate from them. Refrain from using 'Washington' or 'Diplomats' etc. Again I just voted for 'FC Inter(national) Virginia' or 'Inter Virginia FC' The club is right next to Dulles International airport which is largest in VA and a hub to the world for the region covering entire Washington DC metro area. Also the region is pretty international in nature with large Asian/Hispanic/Euro population and culture. It's considered a traditional soccer team name currently not used by any NALS/MLS clubs. I think 'FC Inter Virginia' is the perfect fit.
