Re: 'The Real Vinnie' Grella Thread Vince Grella's debut Premier League season was hampered by injuries after he made the move from Italy to Blackburn Rovers last year. But the defensive midfielder has also been putting in extra time on the training track to ensure he plays more than a bit part this season. "I've been working hard to get myself as fit as I can be," Grella said. "I even cut my holidays about 10 days short and had just a short break with my family so I could put in extra preparation work and hopefully it will pay off." http://www.smh.com.au/news/sport/fo...l-season/2009/08/06/1249350623869.html?page=2

Re: 'The Real Vinnie' Grella Thread Vinnie Grella is a spent force IMO. He hasn't done much in ages besides the 20 or so minutes he played against Bahrain in Sydney.
Re: 'The Real Vinnie' Grella Thread I really hope that everyone is wrong and he comes back well in the 2nd half of the season.
Re: 'The Real Vinnie' Grella Thread I hope i'm wrong too mate, but he hasn't been good for a long time now which is casting alot of doubt about him for me.
Re: 'The Real Vinnie' Grella Thread It really is disappointing how our key players are travelling at the moment. I really would like to have Grella and Culina/Bresc in midfield with Wilkshire at RB, therefore giving Emerton more attacking licence on the right flank, where he was excellent before his injury. He wasnt only working hard up and down that flank like usual, but he looked like a really good player...knowing when to drift inside and leave space on the outside, knowing when to link up the his CF and he was also getting into dangerous goalscoring positions. Experience is vital at a tournament like this...even shitty Italian teams have managed to get through games just down to their knowledge of how to win. We are certainly looking a lot worse off now than what we probably all expected. We still have the issue of Moore, Culina and other possible squad candidates playing in the A-League that will have a few months of nothing after the season. They really need to get themselves some regular first team football of a decent standard.
Re: 'The Real Vinnie' Grella Thread I'd like to see Wilkshire in the DM role & maybe take a gamble on Rhys Williams at RB. He is playing just about every minute for Boro so far this season & looked good against Ireland.
Re: 'The Real Vinnie' Grella Thread Rhys Williams is certainly deserving of a solid spot in the 'roos lineup from me. He's just been pretty damn mature and has handled the responsibility of the RB role extremely well. I think he's concrete at the back and that's exactly what we need.
Re: 'The Real Vinnie' Grella Thread I'd actually really like to see him at CB. Him paired with Neill is I think our best CB combo. Push Emerton back to RB and Wilkshire to DM. That leaves a spot at RM to fill - i'd say Bresciano exept he has looked a bit poor lately but maybe thinking out of the square someone like Vidosic could be a good fit.
This is what you are talking about I think: http://http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2559/rumours/2010/05/25/1941470/blackburn-rovers-will-sell-vince-grella-to-sign-real-madrid Gala would also rather Guti though IMO
And yeah- thanks for the support Vince. http://www.smh.com.au/world-cup-2010/world-cup-news/grella-backs-pim-20100520-vp5e.html
Poor form from Grella. I can't say I ever really warmed to him as a person although he was very good for us as a player for so long. Really though I don't think it will affect us overly much. He wouldn't be around for the next WC anyway, probably shouldn't be in the 11 in this one, and Valeri or Jedinak really need to make this possie their own looking forward.
And, whats is your personal view? Is He the right person for GS? or stay Rovers to fight starting position? I heard he is injury prone, Is that true? Personaly; I dont think, He is the right choice for Galatasaray. Neill and Kewell was the success story in Istanbul club,in term of performance and matchup with club quality vise versa. Grella seems hard tuckle guy, seeng yellow card unneccassarly?, I just remember his game from last WC..... which is good impression to me. But, recent Grella, is what rate? from You?, could you please response this. Thanks.
Retiring Socceroos don't really owe anything to come back to the A-League, although it is a nice idea. Grella has an aspiration to retire at the top of his game and so be it. I'm assuming he's seen the way that the likes of Sterjovski, Culina and Aloisi have returned to produce lacklustre seasons and that he doesn't want to end up like them. Personally I'd rather see technically gifted and creative players return to the A-League - because those skills don't fade as fast or as hard as physically inclined players. That would also have a positive influence on the kids watching the game that there are other styles out there instead of rough and tumble, run as fast as you can around the pitch.
Depends on what you want. Gala strike me as the type of team that like to play football with a bit of flair (an Arsenal type team if you like). Neil can fit into that and Kewell obviously so, but sometimes those flair teams need a bit of a "bulldog" in them as well - a solid and hard performer in the middle. If this is the case then Grella could be your man, Guti would fit more into the "flair" role though IMO.
If Grella wants to live in Italy once his career is over then good luck to him. Not to be rude but nobody really cares anyway.
He was immense at the 2006 World Cup and before, however since his first season at Blackburn he became very injury prone and became a shadow of his former self. Sad, because "old Grella", in form, is ten times better than Jason Culina.
Gone for the season. http://www.foxsports.com.au/footbal...lackburns-season/story-e6frf4a3-1226031754360
It's not like he has been playing that frequently. Although, he does seem to appear in all the games vs the bigger teams. You know, for all that toughness and stuff. Like kicking guys and shit. Rumbling and such.
