The last olympics it was 50,000 per player at least for the college age girls. The money was held until NCAA elgilbility was up.

    i disagree.

i'm with katreus here. certain uswnt players not playing this year will mean flat numbers for the wps. but it will not, imo, spell the death of the league.

Per total player pool, so it would be divided among players. I heard that figure as well.

Actually I think the college age players forfeit the money, at the least they are unable to take part in the Vicory Tour for the money bonus...

I for one don't care if the WNT players skip.... but getting hurt happens what would it matter if it was WPS or a meaningless friendly ?

    Possibly for insurance purposes?

But in any case, sure -- they could get hurt in Intrasquad Scrimmage #482. Or against Brazil. See Wambach, Abby (2008).

Yeah, they could get hurt in friendlies too. I'd imagine the safety / security blanket (monetarily and wrt insurance) is better w/ USWNT than WPS though, esp. if the WPS is offering pay-per-game.

    Ding. Ding.

Yep. Insurance, which team doctors get seen, workman's comp, contracted salary, etc would all (imo) make USSF the "better" place to get hurt (note there is NO good place to get hurt). And if, like w/ Michelle Akers, lawsuits are later required to make sure surgery/rehab is paid for, which entity do you think more likely to be able to pay (or even be around to sue)?

With so many USWNT players being free agents, the timing of the WPS season vis a vis the Olys, and the small # of teams, I completely understand why certain players may not sign until after the Olys or until next season. Abby's achilles needs fewer not more minutes on a field. Boxx & Rampone are retiring after the Olys. Solo is, well, solo. Certain other players haven't been healthy in over a year. And the list goes on. Sauerbrunn & HAO have signed w/ WPS. And Lloyd is connected at the, er, shoulder w/ Galanis.

I'd put the Olys first in their position. There's no hypocrisy since they've always stated that they want a league for building the women's game in the US beyond the top 23.

    OK, let's update:

    SIGNED - Western New York
    Alex Morgan (re-signed)

    SIGNED - Sky Blue
    Becky Sauerbrunn (from magicJack)

    SIGNED - Boston
    Heather O'Reilly (from Sky Blue)

    UNSIGNED - last with Atlanta
Heather Mitts (no idea what she'll do)
Carli Lloyd (best bet to stay put?)

    UNSIGNED - last with Boston
    Kelley O'Hara
    Amy LePeilbet
    Lauren Cheney
    Stephanie Cox
Rachel Buehler (haven't seen any reason to bet against any of these five staying in Boston)

UNSIGNED - last with Sky Blue
    Tobin Heath

    UNSIGNED - last with Philadelphia
    Amy Rodriguez
Lori Lindsey (buried on bench last year)
    Nicole Barnhart

    UNSIGNED - last with magicJack
    Hope Solo
    Christie Rampone
    Shannon Boxx
    Megan Rapinoe
    Abby Wambach
    Jill Loyden
(I wouldn't be surprised if several people in this group took the WPS season off)

    OVERSEAS - not expected back

Lauren Cheney on Twitter asking for church suggestions in or near Philadelphia. Is she just passing through or planning to stay?

She could just be passing through town during the off season because her boyfriend, Jrue Holliday, plays for the 76ers. I think she spends some time in Philly when she's not in season or training.

I would be surprised if Riley wanted her. He basically traded her rights away for A-Rod in 2010 and said publicly that had he kept that pick, he would have selected Kelley O'Hara. She doesn't completely fit the style he runs but stranger things have happened and I think she could play it.

I'm going to laugh if WNY wins or finishes better w/ Philly's CM the year after a move (again). Good for Lindsey.

When asked in today's FIFA Ballon d'Or press conference about where they'd play this season, Abby picked her words carefully, kinda. Mentioned her age and achilles and primarily concerned with Oly Qualifying & Olys.

My guess is we *might* see her post Olys but don't look for a signing prior to that. I'd think about not playing her during Oly qualifying due to that achilles. She could hardly run in that last friendly.

And add MORE to the Beat - William Bretherton says Atlanta re-signed Lloyd (no surprise) and added Cox to the reunion of Breakers defenders in progress.

(Also in that story, though not related to this update - Yael Averbuch has agreed to terms with the Beat but not yet signed.)

    So let's update ...

i'd like to offer some advice for boston since they have lost 3 of 4 defenders. add rampone and tina w/ scott. the #4 spot can be anyone. that's a championship backline. try to score against that group.

Maybe they could get Tina. I doubt Rampone plays this season.

I've wondered aloud here multiple times about both Rampone & Boxx. They've both said they're retiring after the Olys. The assumption by many has been that they're only retiring from the USWNT. Is that really the case b/c it'd make sense for them to hang 'em up completely.

    Do you have any insight?

Very good question. Soccer players tend to retire from NT first and the later from club play, but that make more sense among male players and non-US female players where leaving the NT don't result in a drastic drop in income.
