Al Bann Media will broadcast all 4 USWNT matches at the Algarve Cup on-demand in HD. However, they lost their original investors, so have turned to Kickstarter to get advance pledges from those who wish to buy this service.

The cut-off for pledging is Feb 7 (2 pm, I think). Your credit card will not be charged if they do not get enough pledges. There is a little more info on this in the Women's Int'l "Algarve Cup" thread , but thought this would get the word out to those most likely to watch.

Alright, I'm game for a modest pledge if I can shake the rust out of my PayPal account. It'll be an amount I can afford to lose.

The question is, why hasn't there been more publicity about this? Should US Soccer, websites like EqualizerSoccer and others with a social media presence be publicizing this more or are they afraid of this group's qualifications and wary of steering their followers to this money-involving venture?

I brought it to Jeff Kassouf's attention @equalizer. Most of the coverage Ive seen on the topic was here and on various tumblr sites.

I mentioned it to him and a couple others. But I can understand reluctance on their part to immediately leap in and publicize when money's involved. But they're journalists -- maybe they can ask the proper questions of the proper people.

    add -

noticed that Australia's Alicia Ferguson and Sarah Walsh hired to do commentary and they apparently have cooperation from US Soccer (conducting interviews and such).

The story here isnt so much the kickstarter thing but the why Algarve isnt televised angle. That would be how Id approach it and get the kickstarter effort mentioned that way. It serves Equalizer and other women's soccer related media to help, tho ur right that it isnt their business to promote ALBann.

In a related vein it's also a little disturbing that USSoccer is streaming both Scotland games. Ud think there would have been a more mainstream alternative for at least one of the friendlies.

I wish I could remember the name of the advertising exec at Panasonic who set up the fan tour sponsorship.

I see ALBann has given up on the kickstarter and is trying something else.

Well, with a little over 24 hours to go they were 93% short of being fully funded. Let's hope they come up with something.

As far as I can tell from this notice, they need at least 30k Twitter followers by Monday in order to be able to do the broadcast. If you're not following @AlBannMedia, make sure you're doing so.

Where did you hear that the Algarve Cup in 2013 has been cancelled. I haven't seen any news about it on the internet.

This is s shame. It would have been nice to see this tournament, and they were going to broadcast it in high definition. Well, I guess it's back to the traditional two minute (grainy) highlights of it on YouTube in glorious 240-p (standard blurry definition).

Eurosport has the rights to games with all the European teams. Im sure those games will make their way on the net somehow.
