This is an interesting take on the apparent conspiracy against the NASL and their teams not participating in the U.S. Open cup. We know USL wants NASL to fail but does MLS and the USSF want that also? NASL wanted to play the cup. It was the USSF that took them out. http://bit.ly/igcxFm
Chichi, you know I'm with you on a lot of stuff, but not really in this case. I think the USSF puts very little time and effort into the USOC. It really seems to be little more than an afterthought to Gulati and Co. I think it's probably more a matter of not wanting to make the effort. At worst, I think it might just be a parting shot at NASL as they walked away from the sanctioning meeting table to say, yes, we've given you sanctioning, but don't forget, we're still not satisifed with you.
Yeah, it's like a punishment or laziness to not mess with it. I spoke to Traffic folks and they are just happy to be playing Div 2. It was the USSF that decided not to include them in USOC.
Considering the razor thin margin by which they got the provisional sanctioning, I'm sure, and rightfully so, they didn't pipe up too much about this "penalty" they received, as that is exactly what it appears to be. Outside of not allowing the sanctioning, what else could the USSF really withold to let the league know they still have a lot of work to do?
