Antoine Hoppenot? Hes lookin real good as an impact sub for philly lately. Along with Marfan as an Attacking midfielder not Defense...smh. Other than that looks good.
is there such a player called Marfan, or perhaps you mean Farfan, if is the later, there is 2 Farfans, they are brothers, M. Farfan is a AM, G.Farfan I believe he is LB.
When people on this board say "Marfan" they mean Michael Farfan the attacking mid as opposed to his brother Gabe Farfan the left back.
Thanks for the rep, but your understanding is not correct. If a player has represented another nation in friendlies or in official youth competitions, in order to represent a new nation they must file a "one-time switch" with FIFA. That new nation is now the only country they can play for. So players such as Johnson and Bunbury, who played for German and Canadian youth teams respectively, had to file one-time switches to play for the USA. They didn't have to play "A" level games to be tied to the US.
I didn't realize Bunbury filed a one time switch. Canada would probably have been his only real shot at an international soccer future.
After last year, I had some hopes for Bunbury. He doubled his goal total from his rookie year (6 to 12 in all competitions). But now he has followed up pretty terrible Camp Cupcake performances with a rather underwhelming year. While I'm not all that high on him, I'm not going to write him off. Gomez, Wondo, Buddle all show that streaky and/or late developing forwards can get looks eventually. And as mediocre as he has been, he's still only 22!
Steven Beitashour is a LB from the San Jose Earthquakes. He should get a look. He was just named to the Starting XI for the All-Star game.
Morrow has 2 assists in 21 games (he has played every minute for SJ this year). Beitashour has 6 assists in 21 games. Morrow has a goal, Beitashour none.
Since we do not have the Olympics nor do we even have the Confederations Cup this cycle, how should we integrate the new faces into this team? Guys like Justin Morrow, Steve Beitashour, Chance Myers, Josh Gatt, Mikkel Diskerud, Chris Pontius, Will Bruin, etc... we'll have Camp Cupcake, but is that enough? would it be possible to field double headers with the A team/B team for friendlies? For example, say for the November friendly we have: A team v Russia G-Howard, Guzan, Kennedy D-Cherundolo, Johnson, Chandler, Lichaj, Bocanegra, Goodson, Cameron, Ream M-Jones, Bradley, Williams, Kljestan, Torres, Edu F-Donovan, Dempsey, Altidore, Gomez, Boyd, Pontius -----------------Altidore------------------- ---------Dempsey-----Donovan---------- -----------Torres-------Bradley----------- ------------------Jones-------------------- Johnson--------------------------Chandler ----------Bocanegra---Cameron---------- -------------------Howard----------------- B team v [some other opponent; for example: Armenia, Nicaragua, a Russian B team, or even a Russian club] G- Patterson-Sewell, Meara, Gruenebaum D-Parkhurst, Castillo, Morrow, Spector, Beitashour, Onyewu, Hines, Gonzalez, John M-Beckerman, Diskerud, Corona, Zusi, Morales F-Gatt, Wondolowski, Adu, Bruin, Cooper, Wooten ------------Bruin------Wondolowski--------- -------------------Adu------------------------- ----------Zusi---------------Gatt--------------- ----------------Beckerman-------------------- Morrow-------------------------------Beitashour ------------Gonzalez----John----------------- --------------------Meara---------------------- Reserves: G-Rimando, Johnson, Hamid D-Whitbread, Brooks, Berry, Hedges, Alston, Beltran, Parke, Soares, Besler, Marshall, Myers, Loyd, S. Williams, Cunningham, Orozco, Pearce, Brunner, De la Garza, Anibaba, Lade, Sinovic M-Cronin, Clark, Larentowicz, Feilhaber, O' Brien, Okugo, Gerzicich, Kitchen, McCarty, Evans, Gil, Bedoya, Nguyen, Cruz, Holden, Rowe, Gaven F-Shea, Gyau, Beasley, Rogers, Lenhart, Gordon, Duka, Taylor, McInerney, Salgado, Johnson, Davies, Sapong, Bunbury, Buddle, Agudelo, Brkovic, Estrada, DeLeon
i want to see him get some minutes to decide that. that's why i think it's imperative that we field a B team on every single opportunity since we not only not have the Confederations Cup but we don't have the Olympics either. We need some method of seeing which of the fringe players are capable of stepping up and who can't.
Beitashour and Morrow will play with MLS all stars against Chelsea this week. If either shows up we could give him a further test at Azteca Aug 15. We need to see if our MLS all star Beitashour is a candidate to replace Dolo or not. Playing him in two games against top international opposition should answer that question.
i've never seen the MLS all-star game ever be used to catapault a players' career. correct me if i'm wrong.
So, I'm now responsible for history. I'll pass. I'd rather just talk about Beitashour. Not sure why you want to discuss somebody else........ Catapault? You are going to see Beitashour play against Chelsea players who are trying to earn a starting job at Chelsea. You know, Chelsea, the Champion's League winners? The biggest payroll in the world? Just out of curiosity, what other game would you rather judge an MLS player's abilities on? Mexico at Azteca? Sounds reasonable. So if Beitashour plays well against Chelsea we could test him against Mexico as well. I don't get it. What is the problem ? Why are you against evalutating players for the USMNT with play against international competition? Is there a problem somewhere that I missed?
Have you seen them? If so, you'll know what I mean. Morrow's really strong on his touchline. Beitashour... to a degree. Beitashour's got a great cross, though. That's the real strength of his game. I question whether he'd be able to get into a position to cross much in the international game, though, and if so, whether he'd be able to get to the end line to cross it, or if he'd have to cross from deep most of the time. IMO, as a Quakes fan, Steve Beitashour is no candidate to replace Steve Cherundolo by a longshot. He's a potential depth candidate. Morrow IMO might be a 2nd or 3rd choice LB a little later down the road, we'll see. (But I don't see any realistic chance that he'd surpass a healthy Fabian Johnson, either.)
Haven't seen enough of Beitashour nor Morrow to make a definitive judgment - they play for a good team which makes a player look good too, sometimes. My reason for wanting to give more players tryouts is that there is too much of a tendency to pencil in a Chandler just because everybody says he is good rather than actually looking at his game and seeing what he does. How many assists does he have? In JK's 433 that would be an important consideration. I just don't see the kind of play in Chandler that we see in Johnson who has 2 both assists in the last 2 scores for the nat team, one of which earned a point in a qualifier. Would we see it in Morrow or Beitashour? The only way we will know is to give them a chance.
