Joseph Gyau has been named in the 18 for Hoffenheim's game tomorrow. (along with Fabian Johnson and Danny Williams)

    I didn't see him on EB's list..............but I could be blind.

He's one of our U23's that's gonna start pushing for a USMNT callup real soon.

I like EB's list but I think it would need to be reworked for the WCQ after the Olys. We may have U23 that may make the jump to the senior side right after.

i normally try to update it every few months.

As far as Gyau, i have him on the Olympic Frontrunner's list. If he continues to impress, i'll bump him up to the shortlist section.

Updated after the embarrassing and disgusting elimination of the US U-23 at the Olympic qualifying group stage on our own home soil to Canada, Cuba, and El Salvador. Note that i removed the asterisks for olympic eligible players since it is no longer relevant. Again, all ages are June 1, 2014 ages.

    key:
Primary=our first team selection. most importantly, players we know can count on and there won't be a dip in production.
Secondary=our B team. they belong on the team but there is a notable dip between these players and the primary players.
Doghouse=these players have received a call-up from Klinsmann. Yet they were found either not good enough or simply not ready for the prime time yet.
Shortlist=these players have not received a call-up yet but are deserving of one.
Reserve=these players have not received a call-up but do not at least yet deserve a call-up. Note that reserve is higher than outlook because it means player is currently more polished.
Outlook=these are the raw and unfinished players that have potential to become contributing members later on in the cycle. simply, just keep an eye on these guys.
Not Rated Reserve and Outlook Reserve= i have mostly forgotten these guys but you never know when one might break out. I am not closely following any of these players at the moment.
Nationality Question Marks=player has not committed to the US but is either close or is eligible for service. player's allegiance and development should be monitored.

There shouldn't be any nationality issues with Juan Pablo Ocegueda since he has been playing with the youth teams for years now and recently turned down a Mexico call-up, committing his self to the USA.

Whitbread could be higher on the list, but he's always good for breaking something whenever a call up might come...

This is the Top 30 American soccer players rated by visitors to http://jerseyfillers.com/?page_id=58

The Full Database is here :http://jerseyfillers.com/?page_id=195

Take a look, it is a database of American soccer players, which you can sort by team, age, caps, etc.

And then to add to it, I installed a rating system for user's personal use. Everyone's personal score gets averaged and that's what makes up the rating. Cannot say I agree with it all but its nice to finally have an online database, which was the primary objective. I could not find a similar site so I created it. Tell me when you find something that is incorrect etc.

My apologies if I am not allowed to post links in this forum but I thought it was relevant.

Kljestan has been really good for Anderlecht this season.

    According to Greg...........

    http://www.noshortcorners.com/2012/04/since-im-such-swell-dude.html

..................Villarreal, Fulham, Twente, and "others" have been scouting him recently.

Sacha perhaps hasn't been at his best for the USMNT, but his career is on the way up.

I would take a revolutionary turn and slowly erase the players that will give you nothing anymore in the upcoming years: (Cherundolo, Goodson, Bocanegra, Edu, Buddle, Rimando, Howard)
and stick to what you know will work: DONOVAN, DEMPSEY, BRADLEY
Then put some of the young people: Joe Corona, Gonzalez, Chandler, Altidore, Boyd, Shea, Hurzeler, Gatt, Doyle
And the guys you have in europe: Guzan, Spector, Lichaj, F. Johnson, D. Williams

Is it weird that despite all the recent disappointments, I think the American player pool is actually in its best shape right now since October 10, 2009?

Thank you!!! It is exceptionally deep when you compare prior years. Now we are past worrying about fielding 11 solid players, and now looking for exceptional talent. Perhaps we are becoming a more demanding soccer culture. Shoot, we are analyzing stats now too lol

It doesn't seem useful to break the USMNT into A and B teams.
Basically, it should be the "core" team, and the "bench."

    Core:

    Altidore
    Dempsey
    Donovan
    Bradley
    Jones
    Cherundolo
    Bocanegra
    Goodson or Onyewu
    F Johnson
    Chandler
    Howard

    Bench:

    Guzan
    Edu
    Williams
    Gomez, Wondo, or Cooper
    Torres
    Shea
    Adu
    Ream
    Lichaj
    Kljestan
    Parkhurst

That's 22, including 2 GKs. A third GK would make it 23 players.
Gooch's condition determines whether Goodson goes to the bench, and bumps Parkhurst.

You do know that Edu is only 25 years old?

And keepers can play very well into their late 30's. Howard is only 33 now.

I understand your concept, but you are taking it to the extreme. Yes, some of those older player will naturally phase-out during the next few years. That's also what happened with players like Lewis, Hejduk, Mastroeni, and Ching during the previous World Cup cycle. But you are dropping too many too soon.

Take a look at Brad Friedel as a good example, he's almost 41 and still one of the top keepers in the BPL.

Plus............we're not primarily worried right now about who the players will be at WC14.

We're worried about fielding the best possible lineup for when qualifiers begin.

Will players like Cherundolo make it all the way to WC14? Who knows............but right now he's a captain and starter on the team tied for 6th place in the Bundesliga.

He's a lock for this team as WCQing begins.

The age issue hasn't really damaged the US yet. The big worry is that all the extremely important players for the US over the last couple of years, Bocanegra, Howard, Cherundolo, Jones, Donovan, Onyewu, Beasley and Dempsey are all 29 or older. Other less vital but still important players like Goodson, Beckerman, Clark, Gomez and Buddle belong in this group as well.

There's only 1 obvious exception to the extremely important players being older than 29, and that is Michael Bradley.

Besides Bradley there are players that have been useful but inconsistent like Edu and Altidore, players that have dealt with injuries like Holden, dual nationals like Fabian Johnson who will likely be vital, players Bob Bradley liked that Klinsmann doesn't such as Feilhaber and Kljestan, and brand new youngsters like Shea.

That's why I feel better about the player pool now than any time since October 10, 2009. But if Klinsmann still has to lean on the guys listed in the 1st paragraph in 2014, then the US may be in trouble...

With all of the qualifiers coming up, it's going to be hard for some of the new faces to break into the line-up...with that in mind, here's my way too early projection for a camp cupcake roster (using a big roster due to the fact a lot of players will not be on the roster due to transfers, trainings, injuries, form, etc..):

    (4) GK
Ryan Meara, Bill Hamid, Sean Johnson, Nick Rimando

in consideration: Tally Hall, Matt Pickens

    (6) CB
Geoff Cameron, Omar Gonzalez, Michael Parkhurst, George John, Andrew Jean-Baptiste, Clarence Goodson

in consideration: Chad Marshall, AJ Soares, Jeff Parke, Marvell Wynne, Matt Besler, Andrew Wenger (still counting him as a CB)

    (6) FB
Zach Loyd, Heath Pearce, Jalil Anibaba, Sheannon Williams, Justin Morrow, Sean Cunningham

in consideration: AJ De La Garza, Sean Franklin, Kevin Alston, Tony Beltran, Corey Ashe

    (5) MF
Kyle Beckerman, Sam Cronin, Jeff Larentowicz, Perry Kitchen, Mikkel Diskerud

in consideration: Kirk Urso, Amobi Okugo, Dax McCarty

    (4) WG:
Nick DeLeon, Sebastian Velasquez, Josh Gatt, Brek Shea

in consideration: Chris Pontius, Dilly Duka, Danny Cruz

    (3) AM
Benny Feilhaber, Graham Zusi, Freddy Adu

in consideration: Eddie Gaven, Brad Evans, Luis Gil, Tony Cascio, Luis Silva

    (6) FW
Edson Buddle, CJ Sapong, David Estrada, Chris Wondolowski, Kenny Cooper, Juan Agudelo

in consideration: Teal Bunbury, Conor Casey, Jack McInerney, Will Bruin, Blake Brettschneider, Justin Braun, Casey Towsned, Omar Salgado
