Well, that's clear. As for what Hershey drew: 1997...3,138...8th in league 1998...3,794...4th 1999...3,978...4th 2000...2,214..13th 2001...2,911...8th Something happened, obviously, between 1999 and 2000. The Wildcats had won their division two of the first three years (and finished second the other time) going 55-29 and reaching the conference finals twice. While they obviously still had success in 2000 and 2001 (making the finals in 2001), their crowds plummeted, with 750 showing up for the 2001 league semifinal. Todd Smith left in October 2000 (and passed away three years later). Don't know what happened, if (as often happens) the owners scaled back their expenditures or what. Oy.
Strange. Match report says 5,377 in Wilmington, but Charleston's press release says 4,657. Hmmmm. No report from Charlotte. Also, Antigua's just terrible. They can't play.
Let's ask brentgoulet which he thinks it is. He seems to be an expert at discerning crowd sizes. j/k Whichever it is, it's a good number. As bad as Antigua is playing, I can't help but wonder if they've already been told they won't be back in the league next year.
I would think after they lose their next two quallies, the government's patience will be at a low ebb, and their chances of supporting the side going forward could be in jeopardy.
Truth is more that sports teams are true experts at inflating crowd sizes , but what the heck, it was a good game and I saw 2 good teams
I don't know, I wouldn't mind some guaranteed three-point nights and the occasional trip to an island.
Still nothing on Charlotte from Saturday, but it's not going to be a huge number. That was their home finale. Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Richmond and Dayton all have home finales this week. Season ends two weeks from yesterday.
...Except it's probably not really their home finale, as they have that make-up game against Wilmington. I've sent them a facebook message, so we'll see what happens. I'll hold off posting the numbers for a day or so to see if that number crops up. I went with the match report number for Wilmington's Saturday game, but I'll double-check when I do post the numbers to make sure nothing has changed. Too bad Harrisburg's season finale is on a Wednesday night. They usually have a good final game, but with a weeknight, I doubt that will happen this year. Richmond has drawn 3-4k for their finale the past few years, setting what may have been a team record 4771 last year. It will be interesting to see how they do this weekend. Pittsburgh also usually has a good final game. But with the anticipation of a real home stadium next season, I wonder whether the team is putting much into this season.
I heard there last matches have been played at alternative staidum as they still have a sink hole at their normal stadium. The PCF told me that they thought that the make up match would a (another) back to back around the August 18 match.
Still nothing from Charlotte, so I'm going with what I have. If that's correct, the real median is 1572. Which, while better than last year, is not the best of all time (as it appears to be at the moment). Then again, I'm missing four attendances from 2008 (current holder of best median), and if I put in dummy numbers for those its real final median is 1609. The fun of trying to do this for D3 soccer! This week we have Harrisburg, Los Angeles (2), Pittsburgh, Richmond, Rochester, and Dayton. As Kenn mentioned above, it's season finales for Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Richmond, and Dayton. Hopefully them being last games will make up for a double helping of Los Angeles.
Yep. Looks like the game will be held Friday, August 17 at Wingate University. The Hammerheads are doing their Fan Appreciation night on the 18th, so I expect good numbers for the regular season home closer.. http://www.wilmingtonhammerheads.com/news1.php?id=52&p&search#ontitle
I'm thinking 5000+ is probable but 5800 is pretty tough... the weather is always a factor and the Wilmington Sharks baseball team may have playoff games next door about this time. But on the other hand it's the last game of the season with playoff implications, Charlotte at Wilmington draws really well and the Hammers have an extra week to get the word out. I think the 5783 last year was against the LA Blues... it was a FoxSoccer USL game of the week and the team promoted hard, selling special T-shirts for the game and blanketing the local media. Maybe they'll do the same here.
