USA vs Mexico
September 10th 2013, 8 PM (ET)
Columbus Crew Stadium

It will be sweet. It might put us in the World Cup and possible put Mexico out or off to Mordor.
There is a chance, based on results from the first Sept qualifier that the US could qualify against Mexico but this game won't decide anything 100% for Mexico any way, lose, draw or win.
This. Possible we could book our ticket to Brazil with a win (if we didn't book it vs. Rich Coast pending other results that day), but if Mexico drew vs. Honduras, it's likely that it sends Mexico on the road to Mordor, if Honduras pulls an Aztecazo, then they could be in the 5th spot pending other results in the hex. Either way, it would make Mexico have to sweat out their October hex matches
Yeah mathematically we aren't going to knock Mexico out with a win, we can certainly put them in panic mode going into October. More than anything I want Mexico fans to have to cheer for us in the final game against Panama
Want Landon starting this game with the form he's in right now.
It is actually theoretically possible for Mexico to qualify to the World Cup in September with two wins and help from other results.
I would love to see another Dos a Cero...
i would be very pleased if my dos a cero shirt was made obsolete by this match
I will be there.
Be careful what you wish for, especially when it's as vague as this.
Nothing wrong with bunkering as long as it gets us the points we need. But hey, considering that we've scored more than double what your team has so far, not sure if we need to worry about that come September 10th
I wuld prefer to use our A team against Costa Rica and use the Mexico game as an opportunity to see what some of the up and coming Euros can do at this level.
If these guys cant hang with Mexico then fuggedabou'
for CR which should be more competitive we should go with
Can someone tell me how good the Argentine players that will be suiting up for them are?
You're talking out of your ass, deal with it. It's not 1990, deal with it. You're going to lose, deal with it.
Without question, the funniest part of my day.
early look at the line-up I'd choose for Costa Rica/Mexico...
(3) GOALKEEPERS: Tim Howard, Brad Guzan, Nick Rimando
(5) FULLBACKS: Fabian Johnson, Timmy Chandler, DaMarcus Beasley, Brad Evans, Michael Parkhurst
(5) CENTER BACKS: Geoff Cameron, John Anthony Brooks, Clarence Goodson, Matt Besler, Omar Gonzalez
(5) DEFENSIVE MIDS: Jermaine Jones, Michael Bradley, Mikkel Diskerud, Kyle Beckerman, Danny Williams
(5) ATTACKING MIDS: Graham Zusi, Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, Alejandro Bedoya, Joe Corona
(5) FORWARDS: Jozy Altidore, Terrence Boyd, Eddie Johnson, Juan Agudelo, Aron Johannsson
Out: Brek Shea, Herc Gomez, Maurice Edu, Josh Gatt, Stuart Holden, Steve Cherundolo
If that final game scenario occurs, the USA has to eliminate Mexico. Doesn't matter if it's with a win, loss, or draw.
How many chances does the US ever get to prevent Mexico from reaching the World Cup?
Haha that'd certainly be interesting, though I don't know if I can actively root against the US
You sure about that? If they have 2 wins, that will put them on 14 points. The US and Costa Rica can get to 14 no matter the results. If Honduras beats or ties Panama, they will be within 6 points of Mexico with 2 games left (at 10 or 8). If they lose to Panama, Panama will be on 9 points and can catch Mexico. Thus, it seems to me the best Mexico can do is clinch 4th. Am I missing something?
On the contrary, it's your patriotic duty to cheer for any result that screws over and/or makes Mexico's NT and its hyper arrogant fan base crash and burn.
If Mexico's home form continues, they could be the first team to qualify despite not winning a single game at home (or even scoring at home for that matter). They'd need to hope Panama stumble in their remaining fixtures however, otherwise it's a trip to Mordor
That is how I see it too.
The fact that Honduras plays Panama I think makes it impossible for Mexico to clinch 3rd place at 14 points. They could clinch 4th but I can't work out how they could clinch 3rd.
Best case they are up by 6 over 4th place Honduras with 2 games to go which means they can't clinch 3rd.
Mexico has much better talent than them. Plus they are over-the-hill.
