Double The Special Circumstances Murder charge of 2000? We haven't voted on the Water Bond of 2014 yet. And the Right to Work prop of 1958 went down and went down hard.
Come on. The US Federation is going to schedule a lucrative pay day for the Mexican Federation where Mexican clubs release Mexican players but don't release USMNT players. Really? ...
I wonder how that stuff works. Is it some sorta quid pro quo? I know that Mexican clubs can sometimes seem reluctant to release USMNT players...
Come on. This isn't the first time the USMNT has played Mexico on a non-FIFA date. Has it ever been a problem in a US/Mexico game?
Still looking for the old FIFA documents with their official "A" level international match and friendly dates, but according to fifa.com, here are the "friendlies" played by the USMNT vs Mexico since 2000. (The advanced search feature at the link can filter by friendly.) 11/06/2000New York/New Jersey USA3:0 (1:0)Mexico 25/10/2000Los Angeles USA2:0 (0:0)Mexico 03/04/2002Denver USA1:0 (0:0)Mexico 08/05/2003Houston USA0:0Mexico 28/04/2004Dallas USA1:0 (0:0)Mexico 07/02/2007Glendale USA2:0 (0:0)Mexico 06/02/2008Houston USA2:2 (2:1)Mexico 10/08/2011Philadelphia USA1:1 (0:1)Mexico 15/08/2012Mexico City Mexico0:1 (0:0)USA I'm sure we can figure out which ones were not official FIFA player release dates. And I agree that the precondition of these (non-FIFA date) friendlies (if any did occur, and I think they did) has likely always included assurances that LigaMX and MLS sides would release a reasonable number of players per club. Edit: here's the 2010-2014 Fifa calendar -- http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/wor...ifa-dates-2010-2014-updateseptember2009-e.pdf That does indeed show that the Aug 10, 2011 and the Aug 15, 2012 dates were official friendly dates. Still looking for the previous documents, as I think a good number of those friendlies in the aughts were not a official friendly dates. 2nd Edit: here's the 2007-2008 Fifa calendar -- http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/worldfootball/calendarlive/intl_mc_fifa_2006_2008_en_7920.pdf That does indeed show that the Feb 6, 2008 and the Feb 7, 2007 dates were official friendly dates. (So this isn't at all supporting my earlier ideas. Maybe there are other and unofficial friendlies that these nations played that aren't showing up on fifa.com's archive of games.)
The pre condition to allow Liga MX players makes sense, I'm just not sure if that's common practice, or if its something you can do
A "player release agreement" (with the domestic leagues) is something both sides would certainly want to agree to, to allow for SUM to execute a reasonable facsimile of a real match -- and something from which all parties involved can make a good bit of money.
What this list is telling me is Mexico has scored three goals in nine friendly matches against us since 2000.
I'm going to the game... trying to buy a ticket, but not sure what section to get. Do they have sections for the US fans and sections for the Mexico fans?
Yeah, the inside of the stadium are where the Mexican fans sit. The home team bench is for the American fans.
Indeed, and since the FMF is effectively run not-so behind the scenes by the LigaMX, Mexico usually fields powerful domestic sides on Non-FIFA dates, and MLS has been open to releasing players on non-FIFA dates too. (Another good example, our tuneup game in 2000 in LA, Landon Donovan's first cap.) I am glad as this friendly will be focused on MLS and LigaMX players, I could assume that the preliminary list of 30 players will be gleaned from the rosters for this game and the Ukraine game.
