So we had the mega tailgate and as part of that had the Free Beer Exchange with all the different craft beers. Late in the tailgate two of the guys (Mike and Andrew) were approached by someone saying that they hadn't brought any beer and wanted to buy a few. They said yes and sold a few beers. That person ended up being an undercover liquor control officer. About a half-hour later, the area is surrounded by cops who arrest Mike and Andrew and confiscate all of the beer as evidence. I believe they were formally charged with selling alcohol without a permit and operating a facility where an illegal activity takes place. At the end of the day, this was obviously a mistake on their part but honestly wasn't made with any sinister plot. It was just a F-up after a long day of tailgating. Anyway, they had their day in court and were fined $1500 between them (and I'm sure they had some legal fees) so we are trying to raise some funds to help pay the fine. If you would like to donate, here is a link to the page we created: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/mega-tailgate-the-fine/x/4916049 Cheers.
That sucks man....and bullshit. It's fricking tailgating and beer, not like they were selling drugs. I lost my platinum wedding band inside the stadium, was not a good phone call to the wife. When i filed the police report and told the cop the value of it, he laughed and said, "no seriously" I guess $6k for a mens wedding band is too much in the Columbus area.
Absolutely no idea. It sure seems like it. They didn't want to pay all kinds of legal expenses to fight it and just wanted to get it over with.
ring fit me a bit big from losing weight, hot sweaty day, drinking all day, pissed cause we lost, etc, etc. I even thought about leaving it in the truck befor we walked to stadium, shoulda coulda
Wow, that's a large fine! Also, aren't there any lawyers in the Crew SGs, that could have volunteered to step up & represent the pair? I've appeared in court for a lot of SG members for no fee. And, the fines in NJ tend to run in the $300 range! Wives advice: "After you put the ring on his finger, break the knuckle!" OTOH, as I told people, after my wife threw mine out the upstairs window, "Good thing I wasn't wearing it as the time!"
And as an update, we are at about $450 in donations. Some of this is from people who have given money directly. Thanks to all who have donated.
That's how local precincts pay their bills sadly. They know how much legal fees are and they'll set their fines for things like this at under that level so they know you're willing to pay the fine rather than pay more to not pay it.
