2010 - US were lucky to get Slovenia and Algeria in their group. Too bad that did not happen in 2014. I think we would have seen some 3-0 and 4-1 games, perhaps. That's one thing that's missing from the US's WC history is a game where they just club the opponent.

 

Slovenia game, fifth minute: Great (left footed) through ball by Bradley that Findley didn't do much with. That was a theme unfortunately.

And still no sign of usa brazil 1994

 

That U.S/Brazil game totally changed (for the worse) when Tab Ramos went down with Leonardo's elbow and was basically a clinic by Brazil on how to maintain possession for a full game.
The final score was only 1-0 but I don't even remember the U.S having the ball in Brazil's half the entire second half.

 

Rewatching the game now, I totally forgot that Bora left Wynalda on the bench at the tart of this game which I thought was a horrible idea and Harkes did not dress/play due to card accumalation.
That was simply too much talent to not have on the field against the best team in the world.

 

I remember Hugo Perez got the start over Wynalda...bora apparently hoped Perez's latin influence was prove decisive...unfortunately Perez was in his later years and not at his prime

Yeah, and it didn't work, at all.
That game was ugly BEFORE Ramos went off with his injury, after he was gone that game was damn near unwatchable.

 

Holy moly, those goosebumps... That Algeria goal was sooo awesome. Good WC too. Really sparked my interest in soccer, probably because the US did so well. Heck, I was in England for a couple of weeks during Germany 2006, and I did not care at all about what was happening!

 

Thanks for the posting. Any chance ESPN might air some of these games in the prelude to the tournament or maybe USSF might Hype them?

 

Neither did anyone else in England for that matter.

 

I remember passing through Liverpool/London during July 06 and most focuses (papers) seemed to be looking forward to the PL or CL season rather than discussing their failed CUP performance.

 

Hoping that despite the Group of Death, that we finally have a high scoring tournament for the USA and for (not against). Until Dempsey/Donovan scored in 2010, there was no other Yank to score in 2 World Cups (besides McBride who did it consecutively). Now maybe it's too much pressure but would love to see Jozy pack in a few goals. 3-4.

 

I wouldn't bet on it, most World Cup matches are played very tight and close to the vest.
Goals aren't real common even for the best teams in the world.
The thing that I do like is that they'll be using goal-line technology for accuracy.
